Greensboro City Council Members Ban Sex Offenders From Parks

Greensboro, NC -- City council members voted unanimously Tuesday night to ban registered sex offenders from city parks.

The vote came after a registered sex offender asked council members to consider what the ordinance will mean for his family.

Joseph smith says he paid his time in jail and he is a changed man. He says his daughter asks him go to to her games. When he does attend parks, Smith says he brings another adult with him.

Council members thanked Smith for sharing his story, but still moved forward with the ordinance.

If a registered sex offender does enter a park, he or she faces a $500 fine and up to a month in jail.
