Palin Cancels On California

Shocker: Palin Cancels Big California Swing

Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, who was to star at two major California fundraisers and an Orange County rally for 15,000 next week, has canceled her two-day swing through the Golden State, campaign sources said.
The change is a shocker, because Palin's presence had electrified the GOP base in California. Party insiders were distributing 15,000 tickets to her Sept. 26 rally in Orange County -- and fundraisers reported an almost instantaneous sell-out of her two $1,000-a-head Sept. 25 fundraising events in Orange County and Santa Clara.

Both fundraisers had generated such high ticket sales that the OC Lincoln Club event was moved to the Orange County Performing Arts Center, and the Bay Area event was moved from the Woodside home of Tom Siebel to the huge Santa Clara Convention Center.

The change comes in the same week a new Field Poll showed that Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama still leads Republican presidential candidate John McCain in California by a whopping 16-point margin.

1. Awww...too bad!
I wonder...

Will they refund the money?

Or, in the grand GOP tradition, keep it?

:P

6. It never was winnable for them.
The only ads I see for them out here are national ads. There is nothing local or statewide that I have seen.

Now, I do live in a very liberal enclave of Los Angeles, so that isn't entirely shocking. If my town alone were to decide the President, it would be something like 98% - 2% Obama. It's that liberal.

18. The story is missing some important details
Like WHY she canceled. It most certainly wasn't because they just now figured out they can't win California. There are really only three plausible reasons:

1) Obama/Biden have been charging hard since Sep 12 and have put McCain into a serious hurt in lots of other states like OH, PA, WV, IN, CO, and NM. So McPalin can't afford to piss away a single minute in California, no matter how much money these events would have raised.

2) McCain is appearing worse by the day. He is clearly a man with a failing mind, probably middle stages of Alzheimer's. He is saying really stupid shit -- not just stupid, but really bizarre shit -- every day now. The Spain thing was unbelievable. Coming out hours after the AIG bailout with "the fundamentals are sound". That's just horrible. So his campaign has decided they need to get Palin back at his side so she will talk more and he'll have less chance of really screwing up. At least she is able to keep delivering that same old convention speech over and over and over again without making a complete mess of things.

3) When she has had to speak without a script, she has exposed herself as being an ultra-lightweight. There is a debate coming up in just a couple of weeks against a guy who is one of the foremost experts on world affairs, and he is absolutely at the top of his game now. It is probably a whole lot more important for Palinto be preparing for that potentially pivotal event than to deliver that same tired old convention speech 5 more times in California.

11. Bingo. I think after McCain's debacle with protesters, Palin didn't
have the nerve to show up in Ca. There would be a whole lot more protesters than admirers and we out here ain't quiet. Stay out of my state, Palin.

4. Palin getting pulled from the ticket?
Sound like it. Probably replaced by Mitt Romney. Blame will be placed on the liberal media.

22. Pulling Palin -- probably.
That's been my theory from the beginning. Palin will have some really neat excuse. She's just not up to the job. Romney is just not going to be acceptable -- and Romney is personally responsible for the export of a lot of jobs. Fundamentalist Christians aren't going to like Romney, but who else is there?

8. CA is a lost cause for McCain and that latest field polls shows it.
Hard to believe there are that many idiots in this state who'd show up to see her, but I just passed an "Elton Gallegly" sign in my neighborhood (vile repuke Congressman), so there's a definite stupid factor at work .

13. yah, but
California has been an easy win for Democrats, and a big loss for Republicans the last bunch of elections, but never has anybody not come out here to collect our money.

Obama was just here, and he's not worried about winning CA.

This is a pretty big deal, that's a lot of money they are giving up.

17. Actually, her events have been rescheduled

From DailyKOS: 9/18/08 http://www.dailykos.com/storyonly/2008/9/18/154251/156/127/602972

"San Francisco Chronicle report that vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin had cancelled her California visit, the campaign tells me that in fact it’s simply been postponed.

The new dates are Saturday, Oct. 4 for the fundraiser and Sunday, Oct. 5 for the the rally.

The cheap seats are going for $2,300.00...."

20. There you gio. Rescheduled for AFTER the debate Oct 2
Probably a wise move. This woman needs to be cramming for that debate. She is an ultra-lightweight going up against one of the foremost statesmen and experts in world affairs, who has been using this campaign to sharpen his game. And what we found this week is that with all the lying she has been doing, nobody comes to her defense when Biden throws some punches. The campaign might have been counting on her being cute and elusive, but that is all changing. Something they never counted on. THESE democrats actually throw punches.

So she had better be cramming.
