I out-argued my boss at work today! "This is all Clinton's fault"
Edited on Fri Sep-19-08 02:03 AM by krispos42
:-)

We were having a reasonably hot debate about politics and the recent banking failures while we were working. He said at some point "This is all Clinton's fault, you know".

I said "Yeah, he repealed the Glass-Seagalman Act about 10 years ago." (thanks to Thom Hartmann for that factoid)

"Damn right" he said.

"So he signed a bill that repealed the Glass-Seagalman Act."

"Yeah."

"A bill that passed through the Repbublican-controlled Senate and the Republican-controlled House?"

<pause> "Yeah."

"So in other words, he did exactly what the Republicans wanted done."

I got a LOOK for that one, then he went kinda quiet.

that must have felt good :)

meanwhile, my fundie brother is bombarding me with the likes of Michelle Obama's 1985 Princeton thesis and quotes from the Quran. I imagine he'll really get worked up in the next month or so.

6. The other day one of my bosses...
...was going on and on and on about how, "Madonna is a slut," and that he, "could never vote for someone who has people like that voting for them."

So I asked him, "Have you heard that Sarah Palins 17 year old, unmarried, teenage daughter is pregnant?"

Hearing that he got an embarassed look on his face, stopped talking, and turned and walked away.

He is a baptist minister, BTW.

In fact, McCain is not only a slut, but a golddigger. Madonna didn't marry into money, she earned her fortune!

12. Actually
I hate to say it, but if that's exactly what happened then Clinton IS partially responsible. He did have a veto pen, after all.

But I don't really know much about it.

13. veto proof legislation
More info - wasnt like BC had much of a choice (although I do believe the Clintons are way to corporate friendly).

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glass-Steagall_Act

The bill that ultimately repealed the Act was introduced in the Senate by Phil Gramm (R-TX) and in the House of Representatives by James Leach (R-IA) in 1999. The bills were passed by a 54-44 vote along party lines with Republican support in the Senate<8> and by a 343-86 vote in the House of Representatives<9>. Nov 4, 1999: After passing both the Senate and House the bill was moved to a conference committee to work out the differences between the Senate and House versions. The final bill resolving the differences was passed in the Senate 90-8-1 and in the House: 362-57-15. This veto proof legislation was signed into law by President Bill Clinton on November 12, 1999. <10>

17. As for *this* election, you could remind him that Obama caught hell during the primaries ...
... for daring to suggest that Pres. Clinton had failed to change direction from effectively Republican economic policies, and that Obama felt it was time for something more than incremental change.

Pathetic conservatives, they refuse to see what their greed has done and when they can't help but see it, they blame others for the troubles.

Well done

30. It's Clinton's fault for handing those Republicans a surplus to steal.
We all know Republicans are fiscally irresponsible. He shouldn't have given those crooks a surplus that tempted them into war profiteering and financial finagling !!
