Today, we are all Socialists
Edited on Fri Sep-19-08 08:34 AM by louis c
Funny, how education reform, health care, unemployment insurance, and infer-structure repair all is un affordable. To put it some perspective, 80 billion dollars is equal to putting every American kid through college.

18 billion dollars is the amount of every earmark in this year's budget.

We can't afford projects or programs. But we can afford a war and a bail out.

Now, don't get me wrong, I know we can't let the markets collapse. But, let one Lefty, like me, say that you can drill for oil off shore and in protected areas as long as the oil goes directly to the American people and we pay just the cost of drilling, and all hell would break lose.

If I suggest that we nationalize the pharmaceutical industry or the health care industry, I'd be labeled a Communist. But let the "Captains of Industry" run this economy into the toilet, and all of a sudden, government take over is a good thing.

We are up to nearly 2 trillion dollars in bailouts or government guarantees in the las 2 months. Can you believe it.

1. All my life I've been told that we can't afford universal healthcare.
I'm speechless with anger and disgust.

3. This time nobody is going to tell me that we can't.
They always find money for themselves. This time, Democrats are going to take charge and spend some money on something worthwhile. Universal healthcare would pay for itself.

4. After 8 years you would think everyone would understand it's about richies and big oil. Nothing
more, nothing less. The rest of us do not matter.

5. Here's what cracks me up.
Ain't it funny how hard line GOP supporters like to use the word "LIBERAL" like it's a dirty word. How they like to cut down things like socialism because it "DOESN'T WORK". And they are also quick to criticize socialistic policy's as "GIVING TO THE DEAD BEATS" or "GIVING HANDOUTS" or many other types of insults.

I just interpret that to basically say... "I HATE YOU LIBERALS BECAUSE ALL YOU WANNA DO IS HELP PEOPLE"

And that is a bad thing?

As opposed to what, keep it all for yourself and fuck the little guy? I'm not seeing the problem here. Sure you have people who are probably freeloading off the system, and that is why reform is needed... To ensure these people are AT LEAST doing a fair part on their own and not being subservient to a welfare system.

Most GOP supporters I have talked to have said "HEY, I DONATE A HUGE CHUNK TO CHARITY ALREADY.. I GIVE TO THIS AND THAT AND THIS CHURCH AND BLAH BLAH BLAH"

I say who gives a damn... it's not what you give, but rather what you get back.

People are way too greedy and too blind to see the GOP trickle effect is a myth. They are blinded by party lines to believe the hype, the corporate guys like to hide behind the party line and prey on the ignorant who believe their BS that giving them more money will benefit YOU. And along the same lines, letting the less fortunate suffer ALSO benefits you...Yeah, great concept, until YOU are one of those LESS FORTUNATE.

It's pretty damn hilarious that these same guys who claim socialism is a bad thing have no problem at all taking some socially raised money to keep their business going. I guess it never occurred to them the reason their business is going into the tank, is because the "LITTLE GUY" can no longer afford their shit because they are taking away from the little guy in the first place.

I say PISS ON FANNY, FREDDY, LEHMAN, AND ALL THE REST OF THEM. I would actually like to see the entire stock market fail and the US go into a depression for one and only one reason.... It would be a VERY STRONG reality check and might just knock a few people off their high horse to come down to the same level as their fellow humans who they like to label as "inferior, or unworthy".

Sure, complain about welfare to the poor... but welfare for the rich... oh, that's a GOOD thing. :eyes:

6. Once again, let's review the Republican mindset:
"Tax Money for someone other than middle class to rich white guys like me = SOCIALISM!".

"Tax Money to bail out corporations and the wealthy that I'll be running and part of someday = fiscal responsibility"

Everyone got that? Good. Find your nearest Republican and kick him/her dead in the ass.

Welcome to DU, BTW. :)
