I didn't believe that before this current meltdown crisis, but now I do.

The government is rescuing Wall Street, but doing nothing to help those who are losing their homes. I smell a lot of anger and resentment out there, and it's going to build over the next few weeks as this race gets nastier.

Here comes martial law.

13. Let me make it clear. I'm definitely not hoping.
I think riots would be just the excuse for Bush to call martial order. I think it would be disastrous.

14. If the people were to awaken and become aware and empowered, that would be a good thing.
Something about the frog actually suddenly realizing it is slowly being boiled alive, and leaping from the pot.

And, in any event, the junta imposing martial law may all just be a matter of time.

4. So people would be motivated to riot in the streets BUT NOT to vote in the first place?!1
Edited on Fri Sep-19-08 09:25 AM by UTUSN
Or would they be disgruntled voters who didn't get apathetic *other* people to get their butts to VOTE?!

If every eligible voter ACTUALLY VOTED there wouldn't be a Rethug in office anywhere.

Like there haven't rioters over Shrub's illegal wars, rape of that "damned piece of paper" (the Constitution), and who knows WHAT we don't even know about yet.

5. On election night, I'm going to have two bottles in my office.
One will be champagne and one will be whiskey.

One of them will be empty by the end of the night.

6. Just vote
Edited on Fri Sep-19-08 09:35 AM by lavega
The more rational and civil solution is show up to vote. 60% of Americans vote on a given election. Many other countries have 90% turnout. There is no excuse. Republicans win when people don't register and vote. My prediction is if McCain wins, its the result of lower than expected voter turnout. This country can have a 90% plus voter turn out if it chooses to. So complacency would allow mcCain to win.

All kidding aside, I can't sit back and just watch the train wreck if McPalin steals it again.

9. I think there is an atmosphere that's conducive to rioting. Many here have said
just "vote". Unfortunately, the mentality of some voters is that of American Idol judges. That scares me. Then, remember, we have voted and have lost elections through pure and simple theft. The voting machine issue is still looming for many areas. Consequently, IF mcsame wins I believe rioting could happen if we're not too stressed out just trying to hold things together.

10. This is not a good campaign strategy.
We're not going to win by threatening violence.

Secondly, I think the only real threat of riots would be if the vote count is suspect, in which case it would be justified.

11. "I'm" not threatening violence
Edited on Fri Sep-19-08 10:03 AM by fed_up_mother
Never rioted or even protested in my life. :) I wasn't even a hippie at a time when I could have been. LOL

I just thought that those who were saying riots could happen were being alarmist, but now that we're watching the Wall Street bailout, I'm worried that something like that could happen. The average Joe/Jo isn't getting bailed out, and they know it.

16. sadly he does not need to impose martial law
since his signing statement of may 2007 in which he declared if USA is at war or in any state of emergency, there will be only one power - the executive branch- and there could be a suspension of elections-- no, he worded it as no changes/transference of power. Since he has declared in a separate signing statement that we are in a state of permanent emergency, one wonders.

the scary thing is they have so much to lose that logic dictates they will hang on to this power because they must. They know they will be in jail otherwise. At least that would be one house McCain would know about for sure. the big house.
