Crossroads
As we watch the US financial system melt down and the Republican administration's desperate efforts to re-inflate the balloon with hundreds of billions of dollars obtained by some sleight of hand to delay the total collapse until after the election, we must look back at history to 1929.

The world wide depression that begain in 1929 caused two very different responses.

In the US, we saw the election of Franklin Roosevelt and the New Deal and government actively working to better the lives of the citizens. Roosevelt did not use culture and religion and fear to divide the populace, he did not look for scapegoats to blame, instead he called for shared effort and sacrifice. The country regained its prosperity and the middle class blossomed.

However, in Germany, a far different message carried the day and we all know what happened there.

I am terrified that we are at a similar crossroads and I wish I was confident of the direction we as a nation will turn when so many of our citizens do not even bother to vote.
