MSNBC's Shuster falsely claimed Social Security "will run out of money

MSNBC's Shuster falsely claimed Social Security "will run out of money unless we make some major changes, at least in the next several years"
Summary: On MSNBC Live, David Shuster stated that Social Security "will run out of money unless we make some major changes, at least in the next several years." In fact, according to the 2008 reports by the Social Security and Medicare Boards of Trustees, Social Security will be able to pay full benefits until 2041, at which point it will be able to cover 78 percent of benefits if no legislative changes are made. It will not "run out of money ... in the next several years," or in 2041.

1. Changes need to be made soon, or eventually it will
Kind of like pushing an asteroid just a little bit while it's far away, instead of pushing it a lot when it's closer. I guess mediamatters don't do nuance.

2. To get to the point that Social Security won't be able to pay full benefits in 2041 ...
... they project annual economic growth at less than 2% per year, a lower rate of growth than we had under the Great Depression. But, it's a great TV meme, all the talking heads use it. I wonder if any of them ever bothered to do any research.

3. He's Correct.
After the economic coup d'etat that we are watching today, there will be nothing left.

This bail-out plan will eventually lead to the privatization of Social Security.

Folks, this is the 'shock doctrine' roll-out, the final step by the Bushites to turn working Americans into economic serfs.

4. I say bullshit
I have heard repubs say time and time again that we don't have the money for:
Social Security
Education
Health Care
Foodstamps
Small business

Yet the money is always there for trumped up wars, providing big oil, pharma, telecom, energy (add your own here...) companies, and now bailouts.

ENOUGH. I refuse to take "we don't have the money" anymore.
