10. Coup d'Etat
It is happening before your very eyes this morning.

The 'shock doctrine' theory is being implemented.

When all of this is finalized in the rush to get Congress to pass the Bush Bailout Plan before the end of next week -- the transnational corporatists will have complete control of the federal government. That will mean privatization of Social Security, Medicare, and everything else in fairly short order.

Revolution? We need one, but right now we are witnessing an real coup d'etat.

16. Acknowledging the need is the first step, IMO.
In answer to those of you questioning such a thread. :)

As the recognition grows, the "how's" can come into clearer focus.

Perhaps Obama can lead the revolution? :) The conditions are ripe to shift from talk of reform and change to REVOLUTION.

A revolution of ethics, integrity, and ACCOUNTABILITY.

Come on Senators Obama and Biden: Please speak more and more about the need for REVOLUTION OF ACCOUNTABILITY!!!

30. V wasn't really a terrorist
He was a violent response to a violent Government. Other than two buildings which he blew up, his victims were only the Fascist leaders and their armed thugs. The people were not afraid of him, the Government was. Given an opportunity, many of the people joined him, without guns, and stood up to a Government with guns.

44. I very much disagree
Look at his treatment of Evey, definitely NOT part of the government. He imprisons, tortures and brainwashes her. And he LIKES her. Both V and his historical model are beneath the level of scum.

45. he did to her what her own government would have done to her
Actually much less. Three times he saved her from falling into the hands of government torturers. Except that she could have 'escaped' from V by offering to help her government capture him. Unlike what the government did to him, her pareents, the actress and her lover, and the TV host, etc., etc., she suffered no permanent damage at his hands.

29. No violence is spoken of here. It is a simple word.
You are making a lot of assumptions and criticizing, with you now being a "keyboard warrior" at this board.

You don't know what any of us are doing away from the computer.

You mistakenly assume a revolution must be violent.

It's about words. They matter. Revolution is a STRONG word. These times require STRONG ACTIONS, but they don't necessarily require violence -- they require standing up and making one's voice heard.

How to do so MOST effectively is still the question.

33. "Words offer the means to meaning, and to those who will listen
the enunciation of truth."

When you use more than one, or more than one line, it generally gives people a better idea what the fu$% you mean.

The word "revolution" is defined as a "forcible overthrow".

That typically implies violence, especially when a) the established order is maintained by violence against those who would threaten it, and b) polling shows that some 40% or more of voters prefer "more of the same" to even non-violent "change".

34. You really run hot and cold, don't you?
I really can't get a feel for you...but it doesn't matter.

As we all know, most words have different interpretations.

If you want to get into a pissing match (and, why the fuck are some DUers INSISTENT ON DOING THAT ALL THE TIME???), here is one definition (just one, mind you) of the word "forcible":

"producing a powerful effect; having force; effective."

So, why don't we stop slamming one another when we all want the same thing.

"keyboard warriors," etc, etc.

Not necessary at all.

Just so I'm clear so you know "what the fuck I mean" (I'll spell it out for you), GROW UP AND QUIT PICKING FIGHTS WITH THE PEOPLE ON YOUR SIDE.

46. who said anything about a whizzing match or picking fights?
As for people who are "on my side" that all depends on what "my side" is. I would define my side as "trying to elect Obama and other Democrats in this election and trying to nominate more progressive candidates to the Democratic party". My side is not "talking about destruction" and people who are, "can count me out", dontcha know.

Of course words can have multiple meanings. I believe I acknowledged that, but there is also the "generally understood meaning". When only one word is used, or only one line, then it is not clear what the writer meant and people will interpret it the way they understand it. The way probably most people would understand it.

"Grow up" is a fun little insult that's often unclear. What does it mean to be grown up? If I agreed with you, would that be mature? Asking questions and offering your own opinions are somehow immature? Keyboard warriors was never a phrase that I used. If person A and person B are having an argument and I differ with something that person B says, does that mean I suddenly endorse everything that person A said and how they said it?

These human games have strange and confusing rules.
