The answer - Let Americans Invest In America
I really feel there could be a simpler way out of the financial morass we find ourselves in as a nation. I've made this suggestion before, but I think the timing is right now.

Fact - we have big deficits already and now we are adding lots more. We still have 2 wars going on , the infrastructure is crumbling, and we should have a national healthcare plan(even if it's just optional) as well as shoring up SS.

The USA should encourage and give Americans the opportunity to invest in their own country and specifically for the concerns they hold dearest by issuing a series of special interest Government savings bonds. (Remember, this is how we fought WWII, by selling war bonds)

People could have a choice of buying military bonds, healthcare bonds, education bonds, infrastructure bonds, social security bonds, Pell grant bonds, etc. (Bonds following in the vanity license plate mode, if you will)

There are lots of people WHO DON'T WANT TO INVEST in the stock market, but they are literally forced to through the limited options in their 401Ks. This bond series should be a mandatory option in every 401K as well as being offered on treasury.gov . It would be safe, it would be secure, people would earn interest and it would help the country.

The only people I can imagine being against this idea would be, surprise! Wall Street and the corporations who love having us forced into investing in their sometime charades. Well, too bad. They can start being responsible corporate citizens again and start turning their focus back into making money for their shareholders as opposed to their insiders and maybe people will invest in them again WHEN THEY'VE EARNED BACK THE TRUST.

So, is now the time? Anyone think this would work?
