We need to pass a NEW Glass-Steagall. |
|
One of the reasons the bank failures have been so catastrophic is that the banks have just been allowed to move into so many non-banking areas, thus spreading their problems much further than they would otherwise have gone.
There was never any good reason to repeal Glass-Steagall. We need a new Glass-Steagall to keep this kind of thing from happening again.

That is why the 1987 crash did not really affect the economy all that much. Glass-Steagall kept the losses away from the banking system in 1987. Not now.

4. I know. Still, we need to talk about these things now and build support for them |
|
The events of this week have pretty much destroyed support for the "market values" thing.
It's time to speak and act without fear. This is our moment.
