James Carville and Karl Rove lead off health care symposium...stunning.
Edited on Fri Sep-19-08 10:12 PM by madfloridian
What is this man named Karl Rove still doing in the public eye, still treated as having enough credibility to lead a health care forum?

Why is this man accompanied in leading that forum by James Carville, a Democratic strategist? Is there no limit to what Democrats will do in the name of bipartisanship?

Think about it...Karl Rove was leading a health care forum. The man is being held in contempt by a congressional committee.

The House Judiciary Committee this morning voted in favor of finding former Bush advisor Karl Rove in contempt of Congress for his refusal of a subpoena to testify before the panel. The committee voted along party lines, 20-14.

The White House and Rove's lawyer directed Rove not to testify, arguing that he is immune from testimony as a close advisor to the president whose testimony is sought in connection with his official duties.

Yet even while being held in contempt..he is leading off a health care conference. When do we reach a point when enough is enough? Why was a Democrat standing there with him? A Democrat with great access to campaigns and former presidents. Why is he hanging out with Karl Rove?

Democrats and Republicans Convene in Orlando to Tackle Tough Health Care Issues

Oh, also Tom Daschle was appearing there as well.

Conference panels throughout both days included an equal voice from Republicans and Democrats in order to drive discussions of bi-partisan solutions for the nation's health care crisis. In addition, surrogates for both presidential campaigns were on hand to share insights and to take learnings back to their respective candidates.

"There are many opportunities for common ground," said former Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle. "America's leaders may never be unanimous, but we can't allow the perfect to get in the way of fixing the health system. It should be our goal to have bipartisan solutions."

More on the conference.

The White House Writers Group - a communications firm formed by former Reagan and Bush speechwriters - and the West Wing Writers - a communications firm formed by former Clinton presidential writers - hosted the conference. Opening remarks on Wednesday featured a discussion on presidential politics and health care lead by political consultant James Carville and Karl Rove, former Deputy Chief of Staff and Senior Advisor to President Bush. Thursday's panel speakers discussed solutions to improve the quality of care without increasing costs, how to help the 44 million uninsured Americans across the nation and the government's role in America's health care.

"A lot of people who usually talk at each other talked to each other about so many important issues - about making sure all Americans have access to the health care they need and about the necessity of lowering costs while maintaining quality," said Clark S. Judge, Managing Director of the White House Writers Group.

"From the governor to the business leaders and doctors, we have lots of ideas to take back to Washington to jump start health care reform," said Paul Orzulak, Founding Partner of the West Wing Writers. "Mostly, we agreed that this is too important to be a partisan issue."

Okay, fine, make it bipartisan, but what is Karl Rove doing there? If nothing else the accusations about his role in putting Governor Don Siegelman in jail should cause Democrats to shun public appearances with him.

"A Stain on Lady Justice"..Siegelman in jail, Rove writing for Newsweek.

The original link to an Alabama paper is dead but the text is here.

The 11th Circuit Court of Appeals in Atlanta has again asked the judge who sentenced former Gov. Don Siegelman for a more detailed explanation of why he refused to let Siegelman remain free on bond while the former governor appeals his conviction. In an apparent rush to throw Siegelman in shackles and denying the former governor the ability to even say goodbye to his family following his sentencing, the judge, Mark E. Fuller, a district judge in the Middle District of Alabama, failed to rule on the motion for release, gaveling down Siegelman's lawyer when she pressed him for a ruling.

Rove has been implicated according to Time Magazine.

Rove Named in Alabama Controversy

In the rough and tumble of Alabama politics, the scramble for power is often a blood sport. At the moment, the state's former Democratic governor, Don Siegelman, stands convicted of bribery and conspiracy charges and faces a sentence of up to 30 years in prison. Siegelman has long claimed that his prosecution was driven by politically motivated, Republican-appointed U.S. attorneys.

Now Karl Rove, the President's top political strategist, has been implicated in the controversy. A longtime Republican lawyer in Alabama swears she heard a top G.O.P. operative in the state say that Rove "had spoken with the Department of Justice" about "pursuing" Siegelman, with help from two of Alabama's U.S. attorneys.

Rove refuses to answer a subpoena by Congress...he is being held in contempt because he will not go there and answer questions about the Alabama controversies.

When, oh when, does it finally become a case where Democrats say enough of this arrogance and simply refuse to appear with him at events.

This is part of the corporate media to sell you a canned discussion with no real impact either direction.

Edit: Daschle is a DINO that got what he deserved. Nuf said.

7. Carville appears with him, DU doesn't seem very concerned....but great pic of student protest

COURIER photo/Gabriel Fenoy
Students, faculty, political groups and area residents gather in protest Monday outside the Claremont McKenna College Athenaeum during a visit to the campus by Karl Rove, former Senior Advisor to President Bush

What is so scary, so chilling, to me is that none of the Bush cronies give a damn about honor or credibility. All they care about is power. They look down their noses at ordinary people and scoff.

http://www.claremont-courier.com/pages/Topstory091708.2.html

I gather the visit was this last Monday...no date on the article.

Speaking about the day-to-day life of the President, Mr. Rove described the job as “as closed to drinking from a fire hose as a human being can get.”

The President starts his day by meeting with his National Security Council or Homeland Security Council and reading through the overnight assessment of intelligence or “threat assessment” reports. “It’s the stuff of nightmares,” Mr. Rove said. “Then your National Security Advisor will come in and tell you how many people died because you ordered them into harm’s way the night before.”

“That’s all before 8 a.m.,” he added.

Responding to a question about the protesters outside, Mr. Rove said, “I’m not certain I understand what they’re angry about most of the time … It comes with the territory. It just does. They’re entitled to their opinion. All I ask is that they base it on facts and not myth or rumor or Internet gossip. I understand a lot of them are not happy about Iraq. I understand that. was not an easy decision.”

He went on to say that the Administration made the right decision in Iraq, even though they “did a lousy job of explaining on some things.”

“I do believe was successful and I think history will find that,” he said.

As long as we so easily accept this man in spite of all he has done.....we are not much better than he is.

Our Democrats should not appear with him....period.

He has no respect for the law, as a result people should not respect him either.

11. Seems "A Stain on Lady Justice" has disappeared from the internet tubes and pipes.
I think I may have saved it on my computer, but I am stunned not to be able to find it again. It was by Bob Martin of The Montgomery Independent.

I found the first two paragraphs on Siegelman's website, but a long search does not show the whole article anymore.

Several more paragraphs are here.

That's it, no more.

Hubby just agreed with me. It is shameful for any Democrats to give him credibility by appearing with him or near him.

It is unacceptable.

20. That might be it. I compared a lot of the paragraphs with what I had.
There was, though, at one time a separate article/column with that title. I have it on my hard drive.

Thanks for that. If I find the article I will compare further.

This is a PR conference looking to figure out how to spin healthcare. Karl Rove is a criminal and belongs in jail. And every day that Congress does nothing about this is a day they are complicit in his crimes.

25. Pretty obvious to me...
Both parties are in cahoots in shaping the future health care debate so that insurance companies don't get left out.
Remember, there has been no significant difference between the parties fora long time.
The fact Rove has been wandering around the country freely is making a point...
focusing on what "should" be happening is to take our eyes off of what "IS" happening.

These guys do not care about or follow "our" rules.

That's the shock part of the doctrine.

For the life of me, I don't understand how you could truly have a meaningful relationship who was Scooter's big money donor. Mary Matalin is also part of the GANG that got us into Iraq. So, I'm just surprised Carville wasn't blowin' Rove right on the stage.
