McCain, aides defend idea of private Social Security accounts amid Wall Street turmoil
By GLEN JOHNSON , Associated Press

Last update: September 19, 2008 - 6:46 PM

GREEN BAY, Wisc. - Wall Street turmoil left John McCain scrambling to explain why the fundamentals of the U.S. economy remained strong. It also left him defending his support for privately investing Social Security money in the same markets that had tanked earlier in the week.

4. Heck, this should be McSame's waterloo!
IIRC 62% of Americans opposed privatizing SS and turning it over to Wall Street when Bush** last pushed the idea. I doubt Americans are thinking differently now, with all the market turmoil and bailouts.

9. If the Obama campaign runs with this, they will secure many on the
votes they've been after in the older white demo. Those people CLING to their SS.

2. That would mean we'd have to pay for our Social Security twice.
Our original investment and then the amount needed to bail the system out so we could collect our original Soc. Sec. money.

5. That's optimistic
We wouldn't see a dime. The fat cats would still get it all. Then again, if our original SS collection would have been zero, then two times zero is still zero, so you're technically correct.

8. This is another Obama ad waiting to happen.
"John McCain has said that Wall Street was infected with a 'Casino Culture' where the players lose and the house eventually wins it all. Yet he still wants to privatize Social Security and have millions of Americans to use their retirement accounts to play in this 'Casino Culture' where they will ultimately lose."

10. And the day this picture was taken...

McCain and Bush were living the high life out west, on a trip at the taxpayer's expense and their objective on this trip was to sell the privatization of Social Security.

Meanwhile on that very same day, people in New Orleans died trapped in sweltering 100+ degree attics. Dogs ate bloated bodies in American streets, while McCain and Bush ate cake at the country club and laughed and joked and "PLAYED POLITICS". A classic example of "Compassionate Conservatism" in inaction.
