Comprehensive Energy Act - yes or no?
I like this bill for the reasons stated in this letter to my local paper. Please let me know what you think of the bill & any critique of the letter is appreciated. Add? Take out? Thanks!

"Wall Street is the top story right now, but there’s another crisis we must address-energy. We need a bold & comprehensive plan that cuts our consumption by making us more fuel-efficient, sets goals for renewable energy, creates green jobs, lowers pollution and gives incentives for more efficient homes as well as green technologies. The U.S. House of Representatives passed the Comprehensive American Energy Act HR 6899 on September 16, 2008. It includes the things we need, along with some “Drill, baby, drill!” which may be fun to chant, but doesn’t even begin to address this complex problem.

We use 25% of the world’s oil, but we only have 2-3% of the world’s oil reserves. We cannot drill ourselves out of this crisis & it won’t get better if we do nothing. It’s time to show that American “can-do” spirit & make the dramatic changes necessary to insure our energy future.

The Comprehensive American Energy Act sets the goal in 2020 at 15% of our energy from renewable sources. It repeals subsidies to oil companies & allows responsible offshore drilling with state approval. It promotes public transportation by reducing fares & expanding service using clean energy. The increase in green energy & better building codes will lower pollution the equivalent of 90 large coal-fired power plants!

I hope that the U.S. Senate will work to pass The Comprehensive American Energy Act & start America on the road to true energy independence. "
