"I Don't Know If I Can Vote For Obama--I Don't Know If He Has Enough Experience"
Edited on Sat Sep-20-08 03:27 AM by orleans
if someone says that just rattle off the following:

well, he graduated from columbia university
then he worked in the community for 3 years
he was first in his class at harvard
he was head of the harvard law review
where he managed a staff of 80 people
he taught constitutional law for 12 years
then he was a state senator for 8 years
then he was a u.s. senator for 4 years
i think he can handle it.

"say that! memorize that! get that down"

(this has been your advice for the day from randi rhodes)

1. Corrections.....
Graduated from Columbia University, not princeton.

Was elected President of Harvard Law Review, and yes
learned Executive experience in managing that operation for one year.
See Wiki, and note that many of the current justices on the supreme Court
were also President of the Harvard Law Review, including John Roberts.
(Prominent alumni of the Harvard Law Review include Supreme Court Justices Edward Sanford, Felix Frankfurter, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Antonin Scalia, Stephen Breyer and Chief Justice John G. Roberts, Jr. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harvard_Law_Review )

He was also a Civil Rights Attorney at the same time
that he taugh constitutional Law at the U of Chicago.

He also ran Project Vote after graduating from Harvard,
which took again, executive experience.

3. A few more from a great video at YouTube...
The video is here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uHGu33jtXtc and it's fabulous.

It's from the FrankFactor, and he also has this in the "more info" ... as it says "Cut & Paste to Educate," hopefully it won't break the 4-paragraph rule.

CUT AND PASTE TO EDUCATE!
Republicans are giddy with Sarah Palin to distract from the doddering confused, sell-out John McCain. The once "Independent" McCain has finally surrendered what little integrity he may have had in a last ditch effort to grab the Presidency as he shuffeled along on a campaign destined for failure.

Now the base has renewed vigor! An under qualified, superstitious, hypocrite, soccer mom fills that need Republicans have to avoid personal intimidation by appointing reflections of themselves rather than intelligent, competent "elites" to the highest offices on Earth.

In a purely political trick McCain picked the perfect Republican V.P. An unqualified, government hating, poseur.

10. Compare and contrast with Palin's resume
I realize that she's not the top of the ticket but apparently McCain thinks she's qualified to be president.

Miss Wasilla beauty contest winner
BS in Communications from Idaho
Sports reporter (1988)
Wasilla City council (1992-1996)

13. Boggles the mind, doesn't it?

Jeebus, I've got more and better experience than this woman. If I get a nice designer pair of glasses, maybe I could get nominated, too.

Maybe you could add that, plus the budget he deals with.

8. JFK, I always answer with "that's what they said about JFK, too, but
his good judgment when dealing with the Cuban Missile Crisis kept us out of war". This is most effective with older people who remember JFK, of course, but it's also caused some younger voters to pause and think.

11. Remind them McCain said he doesn't understand economic issues.
Edited on Sat Sep-20-08 02:49 PM by McCamy Taylor
That ought to close the door on a McCain presidency. And then remind them that Palin was chosen for her looks and is dumb as a bag of Alaskan snow.

All this time that McCain has spent trying to portray Obama as a Kerry/Gore style brainiac is going to backfire, because America wants a brainiac to lead them out of economic crisis.

12. On the question of experience....
A few comparisons:

If you grow up in Hawaii, raised by your grandparents, you're "exotic,
different."
Grow up in Alaska eating moose burgers, it's a quintessential "American
story."

If your name is Barack you're a radical, unpatriotic Muslim.
Name your kids Willow, Trig and Track, you're a maverick.

Graduate from Harvard law School and you are unstable.
Attend 5 different small colleges before graduating, you're well grounded.

If you spend 3 years as a brilliant community organizer, become the first black
President of the Harvard Law Review, create a voter registration drive that registers
150,000 new voters, spend 12 years as a Constitutional Law professor, spend 8 years
as a State Senator representing a district with over 750,000 people, become chairman
of the state Senate's Health and Human Services committee, spend 4 years in
the United States Senate representing a state of 13 million people while sponsoring
131 bills and serving on the Foreign Affairs, Environment and Public Works and
Veteran's Affairs committees, you don't have any real leadership experience.

If your total resume is: local weather girl, 4 years on the city council and 6 years
as the mayor of a town with less than 7,000 people, 20 months as the governor of
a state with only 650,000 people, then you're qualified to become the country's
second highest ranking executive.
----
If you have been married to the same woman for 19 years while raising 2 beautiful
daughters, all within Protestant churches, you're not a real Christian.

If you cheated on your first wife with a rich heiress, and left your disfigured
wife and married the heiress the next month, you're a Christian.
----

If you teach responsible, age appropriate sex education, including the proper use
of birth control, you are eroding the fiber of society.

If, while governor, you staunchly advocate abstinence only, with no other option
in sex education in your state's school system while your unwed teen daughter
ends up pregnant, you're very responsible.

----
If your wife is a Harvard graduate lawyer who gave up a position in a prestigious
law firm to work for the betterment of her inner city community, then gave that
up to raise a family, your family's values don't represent America's.

If your husband is nicknamed 'First Dude', with at least one DWI conviction
and no college education, who didn't register to vote until age 25 and once
was a member of a group that advocated the secession of Alaska from the USA, your
spouse is a fine upstanding Patriot.
------

(this was sent to me via group email list)......

14. 8 yrs ago, george's lack of experience didn't seem to bother a lot of people, much.
Let's see, a repug candidate doesn't have to have experience, just be someone the morans can relate too.

But a democratic candidate must absolutely have tons of experience or he/she isn't qualified. OTOH, too much experience=part of the status quo.
