The method to make sure that no company ever becomes so large that it is vital to the country is by taxing them so they can't grow so large. Besides, we are safer with a multitude of companies performing vital services, not just one or two giants - do not put all of your national eggs in one basket, particularly if you have no intention of guarding that basket.
