Why would anyone in any other country have any faith at all in the US Dollar?

Would you be willing to be paid money owed your or accept in payment of goods tendered the currency of a country who's banking system was on the brink of a well publicized failure? If I were the guy taking in the case for an oil producing nation I'd demand some other currency.

...oil is traded in dollars and it has a massive arsenal of weapons.

Other than that I can't think of any reason.

Point well taken though. The long term trend of the dollar should be down.
