Flag Etiquette: Not for Palin!
Edited on Sat Sep-20-08 12:25 PM by mediaman007

Never place anything on the U.S. flag. The U.S. flag should never have placed upon it, or on any part of it, or attached to it, any mark, insignia, letter, word, figure, design, picture or drawing of any nature. Never use the U.S. flag for receiving, holding, carrying or delivering anything. The U.S. flag should not be embroidered on such articles as cushions, handkerchiefs and the like, printed or otherwise impressed on paper napkins, boxes or anything that is designed for temporary use or discard. Advertising signs should not be fastened to a staff or halyard from which the flag is flown. Never use any part of the U.S. flag as a costume or athletic uniform. A flag patch may be affixed to uniforms of military personnel, firemen, policemen and members of patriotic organizations.

3. It's sad that such a trivial thing is an issue to so many people...
But given that that's the political framework you in the States are stuck with, all I can say is ATTACK, ATTACK, ATTACK!!!

5. What do you expect from someone who's Alaska First?
And what else do you expect from a campaign that's Me First rather than Country First?

Palin is the first one I have seen who was stupid enough to take it literally!

11. never use the U.S. flag as wearing apparel,
Always allow the U.S. flag to fall free- never use the U.S. flag as wearing apparel, bedding or drapery, festooned, drawn back, nor up, in folds.

In her effort to appear patriotic by wearing a flag for a scarf, she is, IN FACT, desecrating the flag.

13. No one disrespects the flag more than RWs.
Just look at all the houses with worn, dirty, torn flags hanging outside day and night. Don't they teach basic flag etiquette in school anymore? By the time I was six, I knew to take down the flag at dusk, fold it properly, etc.

15. If you leave the flag up overnight, it should be illuminated. It should
be taken down and properly folded in inclement weather, day or night.

17. Flag etiquette....
a quaint term and a blast from my time in the Corps.

I work in a volunteer capacity at a state park, and last year a woman came into the Visitor Center all atwitter because the flagpoles outside had a Mexican flag and a Canadian flag, as well as a US and a state flag. She was pissed that the park flew all those foreign flags. I explained that they were displayed properly according to flag etiquette. (Drummed into me, I might add, by the meanest fucking DI on the grinder!) She had never heard the term and had no idea about how the flag was to be displayed or any of the rules pertaining thereto. I explained like a diplomat, but she still went away muttering.

Kinda like a lot of the fundies and their relationship with the Bible.... talk about it all the time, but no actual knowledge of the subject.

I think after the Abbie Hoffman flap, we pretty much all just forgot about all the rules. Especially the one stating that burning is the correct way to dispose of a flag.

Though, I would point out that she is wrapped in a flag and carrying a cross.

21. Reminds me of George Bush II actually autographing a flag
Those who burn the constitution and wrap themselves in the flags are most likely to descrate it otherwise.
