http://tinyurl.com/Haliburton-Slave-Trade

I was looking for some movie that is coming out about slave trading (in the US I thought). I heard just a snippet and Ashley Judd is supposedly support the cause against slave trading.

So I googled slave trafficking and who pops up but our resident villian Cheney's company Haliburton?

Halliburton sued for human trafficking
September 1, 2008

Twelve men recruited in Nepal died after forced transfer to Iraq, lawfirm says

((( Seems they got it from RAW STORY http://tinyurl.com/RAW-Story-Aug-28 )))

By John Byrne

Thirteen Nepali men were recruited and held against their will for thirteen months in a human trafficking scheme engineered and perpetrated by Halliburton and its Jordanian contractor, according to a lawsuit filed yesterday in California federal court.

The Nepali men, each between the ages of 18 and 27, were allegedly hired as kitchen staff by the then-Halliburton subsidiary KBR and its Jordanian subcontractor, Daoud & Partners. Once they arrived in Jordan, however, their passports were seized and they were dispatched to Iraq.

..... (out of 12)

<snip>
Only one man survived. After he was released by Iraqi rebels, he said he was assigned to work as a loader/unloader in a US military warehouse facility supervised by KBR. He asserts that he was held for 15 months against his well, before the firm finally allowed him to return home to Nepal.

Cohen, Milstein is suing on behalf of their families and the remaining survivor, Buddi Prasad Gurung. According to the law firm, their families went deep into debt to pay recruiting fees to Halliburton’s contractor in order to get promised jobs.

5. How does Haliburton / KBR do this? I heard one time about 17 suits but most never got news time
It was earlier and the government and the media were still really sewn up. Male prostitute throwing softball questions and such in the White House Press room etc..

BUT NOW when they are saying the SURGE is working... Well, NOT for everybody!

9. They weren't "slave trading" but probably KBR and other subs not doing the jobs ..
KBR and other sub contractors weren't doing the jobs they had been hired to do and America was pouring billions down the hole, lots of them without any receipts. Remember the 8.8 billion that got documented as "misplaced funds" or something like that? Bribes to the locals, whatever, we never got an explanation.

I remember thinking at the time, I wouldn't hand my mother 8.8 billion dollars without getting a receipt. "Sorry, Mom, it isn't my money and if someone asks me about it I want them to know it's in good hands."

She's my sainted mother as it were now, but still.

Haliburton drives me up the wall.

12. I wonder if "NOT IN OUR NAMES" has this ammo?
Huh. They closed shop,

It is with some sadness, but with eyes still cast on a better world, that we inform our supporters, our comrades in the struggle, and all who have held the Not in Our Name project close to their hearts since its founding in March 2002, that we closed our national office and related infrastructure on March 31, 2008. Below is a final statement from the Steering Committee.

My thought is to harrass the media about not covering it.

We could hand it to Keith Olberman and see if he would run with it. MSNBC has him hidden now.

Did the Bush Administration Promote Sex Trafficking in the Northern Mariana Islands?
Tuesday October 17, 2006

http://tinyurl.com/ush-s-sex-trade

I'm not really in the habit of reading John Aravosis' AMERICAblog, but there are times when he brings attention to things that we should be outraged about, but aren't. Here's a good example: In at least one instance, the Bush administration actually fired an official due to his opposition to sex slavery in the Northern Mariana Islands--simply because the government of the Islands, a U.S. protectorate, was represented at the time by then-powerful, now-disgraced lobbyist Jack Abramoff. I can't put it any better than Aravosis did--and this is a case where his sledgehammer rhetoric is entirely justified:
Remember how just two years ago George Bush claimed he wanted to put a stop to human trafficking - i.e., women being forced into sexual slavery?

Then why was the Bush administration's premiere advocate for stopping such sexual slavery forced out of his job a while back?

According to the Sunday Los Angeles Times, he was fired because convicted criminal lobbyist Jack Abramoff was representing one of the countries that most profits from sexual slavery and human trafficking, the Northern Mariana Islands. Abramoff wanted this Bush administration official fired because the official's anti-human-trafficking agenda - now George Bush's agenda - posed a direct threat to Abramoff's pro-sex-slave client.

linked to the same company that used concentration camp slaves and had links to Prescott Bush. After the war it was taken over by American interests and built into what it is now - a very fascist company.

47. But you did not think of yourself?
The system works!

"U.S. capitalism built on slavery, genocide"
Captain John Smith from England helped colonize what is now the U.S. state of Virginia for profit. In 1624, he glowingly referenced the Spanish method for dealing with indigenous people: "... you have twenty examples of the Spaniards how they got the West Indies and forced the treacherous and rebellious infidels to do all manner of drudgery work and slavery for them, themselves living like soldiers off the fruits of their labors." The model of limitless brutality to accumulate resources can be seen through out U.S. history.
<>
Columbus and those like him are heroes to the capitalists. They understand that the cruelty and exploitation that marked the colonization of the Americas benefited them. The capitalists' unyielding search for profits and superprofits leaves them neither conscience nor morality.

Although legal chattel slavery no longer exists in the Americas, capitalist exploitation of poor and oppressed people continues to this day. This is the legacy of Christopher Columbus.

We have met the slaves and they are us. (Apologies to Pogo)
