The secret about graduate programs is if you turn in your papers ... you pass. No brilliance need be contained within. You are expected to do your own learning. Your penalty for screwing around is you fail the subject GRE and are turned down for your PhD program. The hurdle is being ACCEPTED.

Why do you think they advertise the MBA programs all over the place? Those are cracker jack degrees and the university makes cash on them that they can use to fund research.

I just explained this to my daughter as she was sweating passing her thesis defense for her Master's in Counseling and Creative Arts in Therapy. I said my dear don't worry, first of all your subject is very worthy, you've done what very few grad students do, and that is -- you've advanced your field considerably. The requirement for getting a Master's is that you 'add' something to your field. At Ph.D. level you significantly advance it. Of course, she passed to rave reviews, and was asked if she had an interest in going into the dept's new Ph.D. program, but she wanted to work first since she has 75K in student loan debt. (Can we have a bailout here please??) How sick is it that we have young people coming out of schools with this kind of debt in a field that is geared to helping the poor and learning disabled, but the MBA pricks who sabotage the govt. (like Busholini) and others often get a free ride? Or pass the MBA programs while asleep at the wheel? Peter Principle is alive and well in American MBA schools. That's for damn sure.
