Some one talk me down: How Is This Not Bush Raiding the Federal Coffers to Help McCain?

I refer to this post about how proposed new legislation would give the executive branch the power to take over the Congressional branch's power to spend federal money for the next three months.

If I am reading this right, Bush could immediately begin giving money to corporations which would then give it to employees who would donate it to McCain and Republican candidates. He could give it to battleground states----letting then know that there is more to come if they vote for McCain. He could deprive blue states of bailout money as a warning to battleground states of what will happen if they do not vote for McCain.

And no one, not the states, not the courts, not Congress could say a thing about it. The ability to start handing out money to companies which would give it to employees which would immediately funnel it back to GOP candidates would be the most dangerous problem, since the Republicans have not been able to raise money. This would give them unlimited cash going in to November.

The sudden influx of cash in purple states and the starving of the blue states would be almost as bad.

This whole thing stinks to me.

1. This part of the agreement MUST be excised... Congress has
given up enough of our influence over how this country is run.

"And no one, not the states, not the courts, not Congress could say a thing about it." Is Congress even ALLOWED to give over this power?

How is it possible that every major economist in the country, the head of the FED, and the Treasury Secretary didn't see this supposed meltdown coming for weeks if not months? How is it that in a matter of one bad day of the stock market that suddenly everything is described as falling completely apart, that it's on the verge of being like 1929 again, and that we must act NOW, immediately, and within the next few days?

They're also telling us that it's bad, bad, bad, but then they say that no one really understands it, that no one understands hedge funds and what happened there and no one really can be sure about how to fix it. How can they be so sure that it's bad, but so unsure about what actually it is that's going on?

I'm not an economist, but I'm suspicious of these guys. What changed in a day or two of a falling stock market that made Bernanke go off the deep end? Supposedly, what he said to Chris Dodd, the crying Bonerman, and Nancy Pelosi was so shocking and devastating that they couldn't even repeat it on national TV. Suddenly, they are pushing fear, Fear, FEAR, big time fear and the need for absolutely immediate action without time to think it over.

Again, I'm not an economist. But could it be that we have a big financial problem in the markets but that it's not something that will send us back to the 1930s in a matter of days? Anyone else feel like this sudden urgency for action without thought, and granting of complete authority to the executive branch on this without further debate is a little suspicious, especially coming from the administration that pushed the blank check for the war in Iraq, the blank check for the patriot act, the blank check for the war on terror after 9/11, etc.?

Next we'll be told there is no money for healthcare reform, education, and other necessary improvements.
