HELLO? Where is his bailout?? "OUR LAST MEAL IS TONIGHT"

Phangdy Manivong, 58, looks over job postings Friday at Nevada JobConnect. Manivong worked security for conventions at the Las Vegas Convention Center but said work was very slow and he was trying to find any job he could.

=====

William Todd, an out-of-work security guard and nondenominational minister, may be a fitting symbol of the spirit of Las Vegas today: He's having to tighten his belt and has little reason to be optimistic about the near-term future, other than his faith in God.

Although Todd, 54, is on call for temporary security jobs, he hasn't had much luck finding one.

"One of the times, I got to the bus stop, and (then) they told me to forget it," he said Friday while looking for work at Nevada JobConnect.

His specialty is laying floors for residential, commercial and industrial projects, but the construction industry has all but screeched to a halt.

"Our last meal is tonight," he said, explaining that he and his girlfriend, who is not working while she attends technical school, have run out of money.

A lot more Nevadans could soon be tightening their belts along with Todd.

Las Vegas' unemployment rate hit 7.1 percent in August, the highest level since the summer of 1993 when the jobless rate reached 7.3 percent in June and slipped to 7.2 percent in July, the Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation reported Friday. Statewide unemployment also was 7.1 percent, the highest in 23 years, and markedly higher than the 6.1 percent national rate, the department said....

1. this morning I had to teary-eyed clients in my office.
they not only got an extension on their mortgage, they failed to pay an equity loan they took to help with the mortgage, they had nothing to pay either with, and they already have a judgment and an eviction notice against them. Plus, they have negative equity on their property.

what could I tell them, but walk away?

young, a bit inexperienced, and they start their lives in a huge hole.

Somehow, I don't see George meeting with Bernake or congress, and demanding help for this young family.
I just don't see it happening.

2. And this is in Las Vegas, one of the fastest-growing cities in the U.S.
Just think of what's going on with people in podunk.

4. Actually, I think the folks in Podunk are doing better. They never
rise up as high in the good times, so they don't fall as hard when it gets bad. I was in my former Podunk home town in June and it looked more prosperous than Florida does right now.

3. Remember, the mythical "little people"?
That's us, that's William Todd, and no one gives a shit.
One paycheck missed, BAD.
Two paychecks missed, WORSE.
Three, four, five, paychecks missed... DISASTER.

That's us.

We're hanging by a thread and they are doing anything they can to slice it and drop us into the abyss.

Thanks, George.
I'm so happy everyone wanted to have a beer with you.

Can we have a REAL President now?

11. Be aware that the Dems have been co-conspirators in shafting us all
They could have at a minimum been hanging this albatross around BushCo's neck over and over, day in and day out, for the past 8 years but instead they dicked around. They haven't done a goddamned thing for us.

5. Common story here in Michigan, too.
I've got stuff to take to the Food Bank on Monday, and Lord knows they need it. It's bad all around.

9. There is. Nothing happens until somebody's killed.
Not until somebody dies; that will happen to this poor man and his girlfriend, starving to death quietly in their apartment. That's a sad end to a life, and unfortunately it will happen to a lot of us.

No, it will take an action like the rich bastards who wrecked the economy being shot, in public, in front of a crowd and a dozen cell phone cameras, for the real message to get through.

This is the lesson of Columbine. Nobody cared who bullied those kids until the killings started.
