NATIONAL "GUARANTEE YOUR VOTE DAY" ON OCT. 1st
Little do they know but tens of thousands of voters across the country have had their names purged from voter files. Most will not find out about this until Election Day, when it will be too late to re-register. Dozens of advocacy groups, organizations, bloggers and elected officials are calling for voters across the country to spend 5 minutes of their day on October 1st and check with the local elections officials to make sure that they can actually vote on November 4th. We then ask for another 5 minutes to send out an alert email to all they know, to ask the same of them.

The cornerstone of democracy is the right to vote, yet millions of Americans may have their rights suppressed as mettlesome election officials are bending and breaking election laws to deny a vote to those newly registered and also those from large urban cores. Just recently:

---In Jersey, 300,000 people who thought that they were registered, found out that they actually are not. Either they have been purged from the rolls, or never entered on the rolls in the first place.

---In Michigan, Republican election officials plan on challenging the rights of those to vote who have had their entered into foreclosure.

---In Wisconsin, the Republican Attorney General, recently sued the state's election board to try to remove 20% of the registered voters in this critical state.

---In Virginia, another battleground state, the AFL-CIO reported that Republicans deliberately tried to confuse student voters about where they are eligible to register and vote.

In Ohio in 2006, 303,000 voters were purged in three major urban counties while last month, 600,000 additional voters were threatened to be removed from the voter files. After irregularities have challenged the validity and integrity of voters intentions in 2000 and 2004, measures must be taken to guarantee every vote will be counted in every state. Most states have a 14 or 30 day preregistration requirement, Our October 1st call to action allows voters time to re-register should they spot problems.

ON OCTOBER 1ST, WE ASK YOU TO SEND AN 'ALERT' TEXT, PHONE CALL OR EMAIL TO ALL YOUR CONTACTS ASKING THEM TO CHECK WITH THEIR STATE OR COUNTY ELECTIONS OFFICIALS TO MAKE SURE THAT THEY WILL BE ABLE TO VOTE ON NOVEMBER 4TH. The integrity of the 2008 election is at stake!!!

"Let's not allow 2008 to mirror the widespread voting manipulation we have experienced across this country since 2000," said Todd Iverson, president of America in Solidarity. "Let's have this election decided by the people, not machines, dirty tricks or voter witch hunts" "This is a matter of justice, pure and simple. With out electoral integrity, we risk anarchy and sinking into being a third world country"-Mike Collier, Chair of the MICAH Project in Tacoma, Washington.
