Gonna say goodbye to a grand lady tomorrow
Politics will have to wait.

Gave the Giants tickets away for tomorrow. Will be arriving with Number 1 Son by train at 161st Street and River Avenue in the Bronx very early tomorrow to visit Monument Park and walk the field in the foot steps of the Babe, Lou, Joe, Mickey, Donny Baseball, Jetes and all the rest. Camera ready, Devil ready, one more time to the Cathedral of Baseball.

Play that song one more time.

1. I still think this was the wrong way for them to go..all that history being lost.
Edited on Sat Sep-20-08 10:28 PM by BrklynLiberal
They could have renovated the old stadium and kept the history intact.

I find it all very sad...No sense of history. You cannot just relocate tradition and memories.

Photoshop can merge multiple frames very easily now. I have one I shot 18 years ago at old Cleveland Muni, and we all love it today.

Sorry, meant to reply to the OP, was eating fudgebar....it got in the way! HAVE A GREAT Day!

11. Wow. I mean, like...WOW!
Easily the most moving (and effective) post I've seen on DU in ages (or maybe ever?).

Well done, BL!

5. I appreciate the history, but seeing a game at Yankee Stadium is an unpleasant experience....
The teeny seats with someone's knees in the back of your head, the diry concourses and frightful bathrooms...... I don't care if I never get back!

6. May your farewell be sweeter than you expect...
What a grand tribute!

I'd forgotten how much I love that song...

Nobody sings it like Sinatra...

13. The Yankees will be cursed for a long time because of this.
Maybe forever.

There may be nothing that can be done to make right for destroying such a hallowed ground that is so intertwined with the greatest eras of America's pasttime. I feel sorry for the innocent players & fans who will suffer.

A curse of larger & deeper proportions than the famed Cubs & Red Sox tribulations began the moment ground was broken on the other site.

I predict that no one reading this will see the Yankees win another World's Championship during their lifetime.

16. Anything that takes the Yanks down a peg..
..and shows the world what money-grubbing shills they are is okay by me. Tear down the stadium where the great heavyweights fought! Tear down the stadium where the Sultan swatted and records were set! It befits your low character.

17. Goodbye to the memories ...

I hate the Yankees.

I hate the fact the stadium is going away even more.

Wrigley will be next.

And then baseball will mean nothing to me.
