Woman in S.D. attempted to perform abortion on herself!
snip:
"What we see is that women undergo a great deal of hardship to get here. Every time we have a clinic, we see women who have come five or six hours," said Ball, who cited the case of a woman in western South Dakota last year who tried to perform an abortion on herself. The implement the woman used broke off.

Ball described "another layer of access problems" stemming from opposition to abortion, especially in small towns. Patients have told her of their fear of discussing crisis pregnancies, sometimes with their own doctors who oppose abortion, for fear their care will suffer.

"That is a fear based in reality," Ball said. "The fact is, they don't think they can talk about it with anybody, or with very few people."

:snip:
In an open letter on Sept. 4, Lampstand ministers wrote that "abortion is unnecessary in part because the church is a significant part of God's provision to women and children in crisis." Hickey says he believes South Dakota has been chosen by God to challenge Roe v. Wade.

If the country makes the "right decision," Hickey said, "we'll see God's blessing come back."

snip:
Tiffany Campbell sees the issue very differently and is providing testimony of her own. The thought that a woman would be forced by legislators to carry a fetus to term, even if the child could not survive more than minutes or hours outside the womb, is abhorrent to her, she said.

Buehner calls the provision "unconscionably cruel."

"So what if it's rare? If it's happening to you, it's not rare," said Campbell, an energetic 32-year-old whose eyes begin to tear when she tells her story. "If it can happen to me, it can happen to you, your sister, your neighbor, your daughter."

5. even if caribou barbie puts a couple of fundie nut jobs on the bench, all is not lost.
the next democratic president & congress could expand the court by increasing the number of justices- there's nothing in the constitution limiting it's size.

20. I live in SD, and I agree with you. . . fuck em.
They're breeding like rabbits, and they all want to get elected to some position of power to further their dominionist agenda. Even our pretty boy Governor is a creationist believing fundie who wants to totally outlaw all abortions.

GOV. ROUNDS: For those individuals that would feel discouraged that say, "Gee, we could have eliminated Roe v. Wade, but we've never had an opportunity in the last 15 years to do so," this is an opportunity to say, "See, there it is. The court may or may not, but it'll take us three years to find out." In the meantime, let's continue to work at chipping away at Roe v. Wade one step at a time.

These people do great work. They took on the wingnuts back in 2006, and won. :applause:

Now, it's deja vu all over again. Let's show them our support!

12. I'm no expert, but , they will NEVER be able to overturn Roe v Wade
they keep using it as a wedge issue, we keep falling for it, but it will NEVER happen.

Think about it, they can stack the court, they can say it is overturned but the American people have already decided this issue. This issue is over please stop falling for their scams.

Roe v Wade will never be overturned (period)

My two cents.

13. Not overturned, but so limited as to get nearly the same result
You are right - to officially overturn would deprive the wacko right of their favorite issue to turn out the base (and get oodles of money).

So it will not be "official", but would in fact come to pass via other means in many areas of the U.S.

15. Obama needs to play their game, and ask, , Will McCain push to over turn Roe v Wade
if Obama ask this question, and McCain is forced to answer the question it will be over for McCain, because McCain has only ONE way to answer the question.

McCain will be f-ck-ed because the majority of Americans won't agree with his answer.

14. Some member of the "Lampstand Ministries" will be charged with child molestation or some such thing
before long. Those that shout God the loudest always seem to have the most skeletons. Just an observation.

I really wish these people would begin sweeping their own damned porches.

17. The intrusion of religion into political life should be criminalized as unconstitutional
Any law that can be shown by preponderance of the evidence to be religiously-inspired should be declared unconstitutional and those advocating for it should be charged with felony conspiracy.

25. There are a lot of young girls who feel they have no one they could go to...
I've known a few and their fear damn near paralyzes them. This is when these girls are vulnerable to doing things such as trying to abort themselves.

I posted this because I was shocked to see this kind of thing still happening today. It upsets me a great deal.

26. These assholes are NOT pro-life. They're pro-punishment.
They don't see babies as people--they see them as punishment for uppity women who dared to have unapproved-of sex. They think that most abortions are sought by slutty women who want the pleasure without the consequences (not true) and therefore want to force these women to have babies as a punishment and a deterrent to having sex outside of their religious "rules."

They're fucking sickos who don't give a rat's ass in hell about what happens to babies that are born. The whole purpose of their agenda is to subjugate women and force us to be little more than property again. FUCK THAT. Never again. My foremothers fought too hard for the rights that I have today. I'm not going to stand idly by and let these assholes chip away at them.

27. Those ministers can kiss my ass.
God forbid, but if I ever get pregnant again, I will have to get an abortion. I've talked about it with my doctor and my husband, and the risk to my remaining kidney is too great, especially considering all of the other health problems I have. I could go into kidney failure during the pregnancy, which would mean that I'd have to terminate and could die anyway. No thanks. I have two young kids I have to raise, a husband I love, and a life to live.

They can kiss my ass.

30. I had a room mate once whose mother died in Louisiana back in the 60's from a back alley abortion
Then, I believe, abortions were illegal and people did what they had to do in unfortunate circumstances.

As long as this hideous "right to life" insanity keeps pushing their nut-job agenda, we are going to see more of these tragedies.
