Holy Crap! I missed this one...Gov. Spitzer and the current economic crisis!
Sorry if this is a dupe, but it's really worth repeating. WATCH THIS VIDEO!

It's one of the most amazing displays of journalistic incompetence and malpractice in recent memory.

The US news media failed to draw the obvious connection between the bizarre federal law enforcement investigation and leak campaign about the private life of New York Governor Spitzer and Spitzer's all out attack on the Bush administration for its collusion with predatory lenders.

32. Yep, and some people here on DU connected those dots
when all of a sudden there was evidence to take Spitzer down. Financial people were very happy and very excited; and some of them weren't shy in showing their joy on the cable news, either. Those slimy bastards hated Spitzer. As if they don't have their own sordid sexual dalliances themselves.

4. Still trying to figure out what his attack on AIG had to do with the current
bankruptcy of that company. I posted about that two days ago. And another poster drew a
connection between AIG and Carlyle. Not sure how it all fits together.

American International Group Inc. tumbled $1.17 to $42.48 on Morgan Stanley's prediction of wider losses from credit default swaps at the world's largest insurance company. The shares were downgraded to ``equal-weight'' from ``overweight'' at Morgan Stanley. Analyst Nigel Dally wrote in a note to clients that losses related to credit-default swaps may total $3 billion.

Financial shares opened the day lower after Carlyle's fund, which received more than $400 million in margin calls since March 5, said it was unable to reach an agreement with lenders and that they were seizing its assets.

The fund used loans from 12 banks to buy about $22 billion of AAA-rated mortgage debt issued by Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. In the past month, at least a dozen funds have closed, sold assets or sought fresh capital as banks tightened lending standards.

The publicly traded fund, Carlyle Capital Corp., slumped 88 percent to 35 cents in Amsterdam.

27. I believe he was caught in a net that was set for someone else..but I read that his
"arrogance" made him some enemies that might have saved him from the public embarrassment had they been his friends.

I personally could not care what he does in his spare time, but I think he was caught in a net that was enhanced by his own stupidity(some might even say arrogance)..much like what happened to Clinton with the girl with the blue dress.

Spitzer got Lewinsky-ied.

8. Thanks for posting the video...
...there was something that stuck out to me; if only "thousands" of people's houses were foreclosed, why is so many BILLIONS needed to bail out the lenders?

Nothing adds up.

16. Good connection! Thanks! I remember reading something about Spitzer
going after big money/banking fraud, and they took him out over a prostitute, no doubt using the Bushwhack spying network.

I guess we shouldn't wonder why our Democratic leaders seem so craven and cowardly (I mean, besides Diebold & brethren, and small planes crashing, and anthrax letters). If they have the slightest moral weakness, or even if they don't--I'm sure dirt has been manufactured in some cases (we had a pretty obvious case of it here in California, when our Sec of State who went after Diebold got taken down on completely false charges, promulgated by the Corpo media)--they can and will be ruined, if they dare challenge the Bush Junta.

All I can say is....

THROW DIEBOLD, ES&S AND ALL 'TRADE SECRET' VOTING MACHINES INTO 'BOSTON HARBOR' NOW! Cuz that IS the heart of the problem.

31. the DoJ investigated him
they've been doing this for 7 years- investigating dems and or opponents to the regime. It's why the 7 attorneys were fired or quit,w hen they refused to illegally and in a partisan way use the office to investigate Dems. Spitzer is one of many who were brought down by this.

This is one reason why I have long suspected Pelosi is being blackmailed by them.

There is a long list of Dems whose careers were wrongly destroyed. They knew he was going to publish his damning evidence against them and they began spying on him; found the prostitute and discredited him right before he came out with it. Very sad.

Frankly, I could care less what he did with a prostitute...and if that discredits a person, why is McCain running for POTUS?

29. I agree....this video only touches the generalities of the organized corruption.
Spitzer, I suspect, has lots of damning, detailed information that implicates all of the players in the biggest fraud case ever perpetrated on the world.

If you don't want to post it, I would be more than happy to do so.

22. It Would Be Silly to Allege the Banks Had Nothing To Do With Spitzer's Downfall
IIRC, everything he did was cash (allegedly untraceable ) & wire transfer. The banks he used were operating 100% under their own discretion in reporting his transfers.
