First Bush lied us into war. Now he's lied us into Socialism.
How long has this clown been standing in front of us saying that the economy is strong, even as the ship was sinking? And Nancy has taken impeachment off the table. I'm just so sick. I'm almost literally sick over this crap. The biggest gang of criminals in history has stolen our government, and all of our money, and NO ONE will have to pay except for you and I. This is madness.

6. damn malaise... I am so pissed this morning
I wake up to read this stuff, and too afraid to drink my coffee out of fear I will blow a gasket. I may even get booted for calling out a troll because of it (not here on this thread). With all the bullshit going on today, I have no patience for anyone's BS anymore. I see the suffering, the pain friends and family are experiencing because of this, and know it's gonna get worse.... this touches me in a very personal way. These fascists are fucking with those I love and my life itself... it's pretty unforgivable.... I don't know what else to say.

11. yes
if there's a moment that we can make the claim that we now have a fascist government, this turn of events solidified it.

5. In his radio address to the nation, Bush framed it as a case of the
free (market) enterprise ALWAYS understood that the government steps in "when necessary"...that, in fact, free market thinking is based in the belief that government will step in..... "when necessary"

"Our free enterprise system rests on the conviction that the Federal government should intervene in the marketplace only when necessary"

It's being defined as something the champions of free markets have always accepted would happen....the government steps in "when necessary"

Regulations? Not necessary
Oversight? Not necessary

Bailouts? Yes, please.

So, now (according to Bush) subsidies are A-OK and just part of free market thinking and always has been

7. We're living the ultimate national nightmare
Many people on these pages have been predicting dire consequences for the country since 2000.
Now we're actually living through the most outrageous of these warnings one by one.
As bad as the financial crisis is, some of the most egregious crimes of the republican party are on going completely without any review. Constitutional erosion, the Iraq fiasco, and the now the great money grab - with the accompanying "mini" scandals of outing CIA agents and politicizing government agencies - nothing stops it.
In fact, the bailout - in it's current reputed form - will extend these crimes in the way of far less Congressional oversight. But what's the difference? They (collectively) don't oversee anything anyway. People like Kucinich and Kennedy and others are marginalized as extremists when they attempt to do their job. And this bailout - in whatever form - will not stop the impending crisis in the confidence of the dollar against other currencies; nor will it revive our economy.
We are on the U.S.A. Titanic trapped in steerage.
I hope for the best for a regime change, but I just don't know what this country will look like in another year.

10. Socialism assumes we have a democracy
That working people are in control of the economy.

What we have is a kleptocracy.

13. This is the trickle down of all trickle downs
It is a trickle down extravaganza. Trickle downs have not worked too well lately.

I think the trickle up works much better. Raise the minimum wage and it puts more money into the hands of the common people so they will spend it in the marketplace and increase business and create jobs. Put more money into quality education and the common people will have more skills and generate more wealth and productivity in their work. Put money into the transportation infrasructure and it will dramatically improve the efficiency of commerce and lower costs. Put money into the delivery of healthcare and it will improve the health of workers who don't have insurance and enhance their productivity.

But put money into the hands of the fat cats by buying out their bad assets? I don't think that encourages them to stop playing their crazy poker-games with hedge funds and derivatives and bad mortgages. It only encourages them to do it more. More trickle down voodoo.

15. I think it's a bit worse that 'Socialism'
which by now, because of the way our government has been run into the ditch, would be refreshing. It's Corporate Socialism which in my estimation equals Fascism! Corporate Welfare = Fascism.
