Wear blue on election day - let them see how many we are.
This is not the time for secrecy. This is the time for unity and disclosure. If we all wore blue, our overwhelming numbers will be seen, by all. Let's see them steal the vote again when we are unified and displayin'.

1. This is an absolutly great idea - and maybe wear blue every day until the election
No shit, there is great power in knowing your ideas are shared and a visible sign of where you stand is sensible and just a plain great idea.

3. I'm for wearing blue from now until the election.
This country is horribly divided - let's see how it really breaks down. It's time to see who is who.

It's that important.

9. Is that true?
You can't wear a political t-shirt to vote? I wouldn't be surprised these days but that sounds so intrusive. And so not First Amendement.

12. IIRC, you can't wear anything that indicates your preference to vote.
Comes under the rule of not having the supporters less than a certain amount of feet near the polls.

I think it had to do with intimidation.

I wore my Jim Webb shirt to vote, but I had it under a jacket. IIRC, you can't wear a DU shirt, either. The poll worker will ask you to take it off or put something over it.

He had to park to park X-amount of feet away, and walk back.

50. I wonder what they would do with a handicapped person with a political sticker?
I need to go get my handicapped permit since with all the volunteering my knees are killing me. Usually I do not put bumper stickers on my car but I am tempted. If they try to make me park away from the poll location I can point to the handicap permit and make them work out how to get me to the poll!

At least not for buttons. I've even worn my candidate buttons while doing the whole poll inspector thing, with no objections. Though maybe that's because I bribed the poll workers with candy.

37. No electioneering within X feet of a polling place
X may vary by state and locality, but I think they all have some variation on the rule.

Here we just ask people nicely to cover their campaign gear up, but we don't refuse them entry if they don't.

17. Wear Blue - Yes!
I have been saying this for the past 2 years - if we all wear blue, we will be a highly visible "exit poll" and they can't skew the numbers or steal the election as easily. We need to send this message to every progressive/liberal radio and tv personality to spread the word. A massive sea of blue on election day just might prevent another stolen election. (I hope)

23. The Corporate Media still convinced America that....
Working class people lined up in the rain well into the night to vote in Ohio, suddenly changed their minds and voted for George W. Bush at the last moment.

After all, why else would they spend hours in line being miserable, just to change their minds at the last moment and vote for the harm inflicted upon them?

The FASCISM was confirmed that night.

27. Thnx. But I am still a newb. The folks here are the mouthpiece.
I came here reading what Elizabeth Edwards said about DU. That sold me on this place. And I know the 'other side' is paying attention to what is posted here.

Right now, in some city, in some cubicle, some jerk getting a paycheck paid with our tax money is taking note of the tiniest beginnings of a possible insurrection here at DU. Something that is not in the playbook and their worst nightmare. What they fear most is that the country, the world will finally see how strong the blue side is. It's not 50-50. Not by a long shot.

Please keep this active. If it dies, along with many other futile attempts at showing we are not their lab animals, then it dies.

56. Don't sell yourself short. You may be a "newb" but this one idea
given that it impacts the Real World, may, in one fell swoop catapult you ahead of most other DUers no matter how long we have been here. I mean, if it could be made to work and give everyone an eyeful of just how out of touch with actual reality the Bushie False Reality Bubble IS, that quite outweighs 20,000 or more posts on some anonymous message board.

Never lose sight of that. As great as DU is, that's all it is...an anonymous message board. Twenty minutes of doorknocking and phone-calling for the Obama Campaign trumps a year of posting on DU, IMHO. DU truly matters only sofar as it impacts life in the Real World (all personal happiness at DU's existance aside for the moment) And this idea is very much a Real World idea. Bravo.

One caveat, and a BIG ONE, this is all incumbent on if it could be organized and massively executed, which is no mean feat...but maybe it could be if you could get this to someone in the Obama Campaign or Olbermann/Maddow or moveon.org or somone else with the resources to publicize it...otherwise, no matter how good an idea it will die with this thread...and this thread will disappear like all the rest).

And this is too good an idea to let that happen.

45. Amber, godluvya, it sounds like Obama shirts (pink or blue or whatever)
may not be a good idea. You see, in this country, supporters are not allowed within x feet of a polling place. You can vote for someone, but it's supposed to be a secret. The point here is to take away all that secrecy and declare who you support with the color. That's all they have left us. So let's use it.

p.s. It also sounds like you may have to take off your Obama shirt at the polls, so unless you are particulary proud of your boobs, I would go with the blue shirt.

47. Challenge for DUers
I have been trying to find the total primary popular vote on the internet, broken down by party.

Immediately after McCain received the nomination, the numbers were 38 million D's to 17 million R's. I did not save that data but can now not find it anywhere.

It looks like the totals have been scrubbed. Can anyone find the popular primary totals? This should not be a figure that is so hard to find.

It just shows how much they want us to think we are 50-50. And how devious and powerful they are. Please wear blue, if not on election day, but every day prior to show how many there are of us and they cannot scrub us from the real world.

53. Good Lord, that's a wonderful idea! Someone foreward this to the Obama Campaign!
Somebody needs to get this in front of lots of eyes...it's the only way it could work.

In some ways it's a little creepy in a Third World sense. We dress up in blue and they dress up in red (you have to assume the Bushies will steal this idea as soon as they see it and it's impossible to keep it from their eyes in a public forum)

Unfortunately, the Bushies have already Third World-ized our nation and though we would have never done it in the first place, we are running out of time and options to respond and turn this back...ESPECIALLY as it looks like the Bushies are going to try their best to steal this thing.

This is a fantastic idea that absolutely needs to be gotten to someone like Obama or Olbermann or maybe moveon.org so it can be publicized and become a reality!

59. This thread has been forwarded.
To the DNC, Obama Campaign, Michael Moore and my email contacts. I am not giving up on this. They wanted a fight and now they are getting one. It's just a shame we are now having to divide ourselves ala the crips and the bloods. But they asked for it.

Another suggestion: DU could have some mechanism in place to assist with making something go viral. There was a terrific post on attempts to disenfranchise dems that asked to go viral in its subject line. All the foremost truth sites should be somehow connected, with a central clearinghouse.

God knows the freepers are more organized and proactive than the dems are...and it shows. This is war, folks. The internet is a powerful tool and our best tool for the truth. We are using it as well as we can, but we can use it better.

60. You'd have to research it to figure out exactly what the Bushies do in their Viral e-Ops
Edited on Tue Sep-23-08 06:32 AM by tom_paine
Naturally, there is nothing even remotely comparable on the Democratic side, though it is finally, belatedly building (often without help from the Democratic Party itself). Except to get the words out to DEBUNK Lying Bushie Blast E-Mails instead of using it like the Bushies do, in the service of lies.

Having said that, I have made a few observations when I have seen these Bushie blast e-things...and they are EVERYWHERE. A testament to the efficiency of Totalitarian Lunatics and the Evil Ones the Love and Follow, I suppose.

From my small exposure to them, I have noticed:

1) The Bushies, as with most everything else, camouflage themselves brilliantly in that these e-mails NEVER mention politics, per se, but always put on a big bluff and blow show of principled outrage. Because of this, Bushie Lying Blast e-mails find their success, I believe, partially because they travel the byways of e-jokes and other minutiae.

2) They are "laundered" through the workplace which again further removes political "taint" from it. After all, we all get numerous work-to-work e-mails from friends with jokes, pictures, articles, right?

3) The Bushies use the Principles of Advertising and Marketing to a Tee, and one of those basic, most powerful principles is that people are more easily manipulated if they are UNAWARE that they are being manipulated. Thus their Lying Bushie Blast e-mails must camouflage as "workplace chatter" if they are to provide their "brick in the wall" of the huge, multifaceted Bushie False Reality Bubble.

The more seamless the bubble the Bushies create, the fewer places people can turn for decent, halfway-believable information on the world that reflect reality instead of Bushiganda's Gestalt, the greater it's success in getting people flipped upside-down from the decent Americans they were to those who are still basically the same people on a personal level, but who's larger "public mind" is closer to that of the 1930s German than the decent people they might be in their daily lives.

Do you see it? It's so goddamned big and subtle, yet so forceful.

The 1930s Germans had a word for it. Gleichschaltung. If you don't know the word, Google it.

Anyway, for your efforts, I salute you. :patriot:

I can see the problem quite clearly, what escapes me are the solutions. The more brains that start to see this, the more people we can get thinking about it, the more likely SOMEONE lots smarter than me can not only see the full extent of the problem, but can figure out a way to repair the huge societal gash and bleeding wound 30 years of Bushevism has caused in our National Psyche.

I hope the folks at Michael Moore.com, or the Obama Campaign or someone sees this and starts thinking about what we need to do to "detoxify" the National Mental Condition. We must find a way to do this and preserve the Old American System of Checks and Balances, the Old American character (yes, I know we were far from perfect, all peoples are, but we had a good thing going), and the Old American Freedoms, as well.

No Commie- or Bushie-style information suppression and manipulation, please. No well-intentioned censorship, please. We need to win back what was lost, not do authoritarianism, Leftie-style (as opposed to Bushie-style, which we live under now).

Even Bushies and Nazis deserve their say. What they DON'T deserve is to be allowed to control and dictate the National Dialogue, to say the least. What they DON'T deserve is to be allowed to construct a massive False Reality Generating and Gestalt-Generating Bushiganda Machine and Lie Laundry on the bones of the old, dying Free Press, leeching off the trust people had for that now-mostly-defunct institution.

We need to get Obama elected (if such a thing is possible given the state of "voting" in Imperial Amerika), but we also need to start thinking about these larger issues, because I think THAT is one reason if not the main reason, why we can't seem to get 55-60% + in the polls (if they are remotely believable themselves) EVEN NOW, with the nation in obvious downward spiral and the obvious Bushie Villainy now quite openly performed, even more openly that a few years ago.

Oh, and with a solid 80% of people saying the country is on the Wrong Track consistently now for a couple years.

I'm not sure there IS an answer, anymore than Hitler could have been stopped once a certain threshold was passed in 1933. Some might say the Reichstag Fire but the die was cast when Hindenburg gave Hitler the Chancellorship three weeks earlier and the die may have been cast long before that, in the early 30s when the German Social Democrats retreated and retreated in the face of Nazi, then still a minority in the German Congress, demands.

But if there IS an answer, we need to get lots of smart people think about the right questions and working on it AFTER Obama gets in office.

I'll have to make sure I have enough blue t-shirts to wear for those two weeks, especially since it looks like I may be giving people rides to the polls.
