I just talked to my brother. His power was just restored yesterday.
They tell me Houston is a huge mess right now. Price gouging on everything from bread to gas.

And, my sister in law tells me that Hurricane Kyle is on the way :scared:

3. Kyle is pretty far south
if it's the one I looked at last night.

Maybe Mexico will get it this time, spread the misery a little.

Unfortunately, it looks as though Haiti and Jamaica will get clobbered. Again.

5. Yes, 93L is actually supposed to come up the east coast
according to the models at this point.

4. I don't understand how people can be so greedy.
If it's costing them more to get the goods and supplies to Houston, perhaps, but if they are doing it out of pure, unadulterated opportunism and greed, that is unconscionable.

6. We saw a lot of that same greed and pure opportunism right after Katrina.
There was a gas station not to far from where my mother lived that was charging 8 dollars a gallon in a time when gas nationwide was around 3 or 3.20. They never got prosecuted as far as I know, and the police were not functioning at the time.

7. Happy for them
Kyle won't be heading anywhere near Texas, and that's if ever becomes a named storm

Jeff Masters' analysis is interesting

I'd worry more about the wave behind which will become Laura if it develops.
Elsewhere in the tropics
A tropical wave with some limited heavy thunderstorm activity is a few hundred miles south of the Cape Verde Islands off the coast of Africa. The GFS and NOGAPS models continue to predict that this system will develop into a tropical depression by the middle of the week.

9. Can you tell from any of those maps
if Rhode Island will be threatened later this week?

I'm headed there for a dog show through Saturday.

Thanks.

11. It's too early to tell where it will end up, BUT
I wouldn't worry too much about it. Just plan on enjoying the dog show.

Right now it's not even a tropical depression, only an invest. An invest is an area of storms that might develop into something.

The hurricane hunter plane went to it this afternoon and invest 93L doesn't have closed circulation. Closed circulation is needed to become a tropical depression.

And even if it does develop, there is a good chance it could be a fish storm and churn far away from land.
