Poll: Presidential race in Michigan about even
VEry discouraging poll

THE POLL: EPIC-MRA poll, presidential race among likely voters in Michigan.

THE NUMBERS: Barack Obama, 43 percent, John McCain, 42 percent.

OF INTEREST: The economy remains the dominant issue in the state, whose August unemployment rate again led the nation at 8.9 percent. Forty-three percent of those polled they were most concerned about improving the economy and providing jobs, and 80 percent said Michigan is on the wrong track.

DETAILS: Conducted Sept. 14-17 for The Detroit News and television stations WXYZ, WILX, WOOD and WJRT with sample of 602 likely voters. Margin of sampling error of plus or minus 4 percentage points.

1. Not really... other polls have Obama up +7. This is a limited sample with
a large MoE and 15% undecided. Showing a lead is a good thing especially when we have such a superior ground operation. MI was about + 2 or 3 for Kerry and Gore but both carried the state in the end. Michigan will go blue again as it has four elections in a row. The economy will be the tipping point.

2. electoral-vote has MI in flux the past few days
Today, it went from "Weak Dem" to "Barely Dem".



Still, I like the general trend.
