bad news might reflect badly on the 'pukes, and if it's very visual, it'll ruin the Youngster's departure and the Old goof's chances at the boor vote (boors see big texas mess, they might react!) Even 911 was just a distraction from normality, when people might realize that Gore actually won the '00 election meaning the Youngster was a crook etc (and we can't have that) the 'wars' against Iraq/Afghanistan also kept the newsteams hopping, instead of looking too closely at 911.
