Republicans are brain washed robots. They get all their ideas from Limbaugh and company. My own husband is a ditto-head who will complain about "feminazis" and I will ask him why he is sleeping with one? No answer forthcoming. It is a sad effect, people are completely overcome by that stuff, it is scary. I used to not be into politics so much but have realized myself to be very liberal in recent years, liberal meaning that I was fair treatment for people and policies that favor people over corporations and for this war for profit stuff to end NOW. I now see politics as life or death for our democracy (Democrats elected=Democracy survives). If that makes me something hideous in the minds of those that don't own their minds, (including my husband), so be it. They cannot be talked to, they will watch the evening news and proclaim anything they don't like to be liberal lies.

You have to be brainwashed and think like conservatives unless you are part of the ultra-rich power structure, and they are in charge of the brainwashing, mega-ministers included.

The only "unbiased" news sources are the conservative ones, filled with hateful invective. And of course, liberals have to be made out to be just one rung away from evil.

How else can you get low-income voters to vote against their economic interests? How else can you get them to support an overly aggressive foreign policy? The only way can you get them to support a party plank that is based on almost NO facts is to allege that the liberals are evil, that the "facts" reported by the "liberal" media aren't "true" and that every other country in the world is wrong and communist and anti-American.

27. I found a way to redirect an argument with people like that.

When they're going on and on about . . . whatever - Obama, liberals, teachers whatever, I say

"If I believed what you believe about I wouldn't like them either."

That often brings the conversation to a complete stop and you can redirect it from there.

This isn't just a ploy, it's usually the truth.

I mean if you actually believed that liberals, for instance, were unpatriotic, hateful, wasteful, and cowardly, you wouldn't like them either.

I discovered this quite by accident many years ago in a session with my husband's first wife, her new husband, my husband, me, and a counselor.

The ex-wife was on a huge rant about me - why, I have no idea, inasmuch as they were divorced and she had remarried long before I met my husband. She was starting to interfere with my husband's visitation with their daughter, so we sought the session.

So she's going off on me, and finally I blurted out "Wow, if I believed what you do about me, I wouldn't like me either!"

The counselor saw that as a place to start working and so we did.
