Was it really necessary or relevant to this election for Stanford University to ask white respondents whether they thought blacks were "lazy," ''violent" or responsible for their own troubles?

It's incredible that they'd use these loaded questions to gauge whether voters would support a black candidate for the presidency. I find this line of questioning outrageous and disgusting. I can't believe anyone would accept that this is a credible measure of Barack Obama's potential support in November.

here's the report:

September 21, 2008

WASHINGTON (AP) _ Deep-seated racial misgivings could cost Barack Obama the White House if the election is close, according to an AP-Yahoo News poll that found one-third of white Democrats harbor negative views toward blacks — many calling them "lazy," ''violent" or responsible for their own troubles.

The poll, conducted with Stanford University, suggests that the percentage of voters who may turn away from Obama because of his race could easily be larger than the final difference between the candidates in 2004 — about 2.5 percentage points.

2. better keep quiet on this
. . . don't want to highlight the 'R' word.

Better to just trust that voters won't be too manipulated by this pernicious propaganda than to try and rise up against it. :eyes:

8. Of course it won't stop anytime soon. Not until largely racist white folks stop being so.

10. I don't know if that should include refusing to hold the media accountable

I guess we can just wait and see what the impact is of a poll which encourages the view that white voters see blacks as violent and lazy, therefore they're inclined to oppose Barack Obama for president.

I suppose there's fear here that there can't be a mature discussion of the ramifications and accountability for a substantially biased, nationally promoted push poll. I would hope not.

How about the one asking if Women like Palin are too emotional to lead? :eyes:
