Lobbyists: "Don't load the legislation with regulatory measures the industry has long opposed."

Okay, this TOO MUCH, the gall of these assholes...after we foot $1 trillion these bastards get to go off and play!?!?! You have got to be fucking kidding me.

House Republican staffers met with roughly 15 lobbyists Friday afternoon, whose message to lawmakers was clear: Don't load the legislation up with provisions not directly related to the crisis, or regulatory measures the industry has long opposed.

"We're opposed to adding provisions that will affect undermine the deal substantively," said Scott Talbott, senior vice president of government affairs at the Financial Services Roundtable, whose members include the nation's largest banks, securities firms and insurers.

A deal killer for the group: a proposal that would grant bankruptcy judges new powers to lower the principal, interest rate or both on a mortgage as part of a bankruptcy proceeding.

5. IF our government and Dems had ANY spine at ALL, they'd flip a big middle finger at those assholes
...and PUT IN new regulations that they MUST follow in order to even get the bailout, AND they would provide ways for homeowners to STAY in their homes by renegotiating their mortgages a lower FIXED interest rates. AND they'd be forced to open their books to the public AND their CxOs would get ZERO bonuses, golden parachutes, and NO salary until the bad debt is PAID FIRST using the money that they would have gotten in fat salaries and bonuses.

SCREW THEM! They have SCREWED US and they don't DESERVE to have trillions of OUR money handed to them on a golden platter for DESTROYING our economy! To HELL with them.

6. are we suprised?
Republicans are so in the tank to these people that they think they can dictate terms of their own bailout. After all, they've dictated our energy policy, the Medicare drug plan, etc....the Pioneers rule the roost.

9. why anyone expects them to change their thinking because of what's happening
is beyond me

just because they will gladly take a government subsidy (corporate welfare) in the form of a bailout doesn't mean they've given up their free market , no regulation thinking

And those interests they represent, spend the rest of their miserable days committing intercourse unto themselves. Amen.

And on reflection: However you think of them, however sociopathic these guys might be in your estimation, remember: you have been shooting low.
