Force the Republicans to block it and Bush threaten a veto. That will go over real well six weeks before an election.

1. I just emailed Boxer and Feinstein to do just that.
Actually, if Wall Street needs the money so desperately, it is we, the taxpayers, who hold the cards and can set the terms.

BTW, the article by Robert Kuttner in today's Huffington Post seems like a good alternative plan.

3. Yes, I read that also. I'm no economist, so I leave it to the experts to
pick the plan, but it must be fundamentally different than the Paulson Plan.

4. They leaked the script....
Harry Reid in the Senate will put Paulson's bill up for a straight up-or-down vote, but several Democrats running this year will introduce an oversight amendment. The amendment will fail in a 48 to 52 vote. Paulson's bill will then pass with a large margin.

The House will pass a bill with some limited oversight provisions, but they will be stripped out by a rushed conference committee.

Bush signs Thursday and Wall Street rallies.

6. Isn't this what a filibuster was really designed for?
Is legislation as dangerous as this not worthy of a delay long enough to 1) get our own legislation drafted and 2) educate the public as to why this is such a bad idea?

7. Reid only uses filibusters to prevent liberal legislation with majority support...
from passing.

It's a skilled tool in his hands.

8. But but but -- in times of major crises, we must NOT
be "partisan" as Bush has reminded us so forcefully, once more bullying naysayers into being called unpatriotic if they try to correct the situation with all of America in mind as opposed to the fat cats.

Once again Bushco plays this card after CAUSING the crisis in the first place and then using it to get more unchecked power and shred the Constitution even more.
