Tommy Smothers FINALLY wins 1968 Emmy, dedicates it to people who "speak to power" |
|
Edited on Sun Sep-21-08 08:00 PM by johnfunk
Inspiring beyond belief! LONG overdue. Blasted "ignorance" (as in teh current regime and ended with, "Truth is what you get other people to believe." And how right he is -- time to demolish the propaganda the way he and Dick did in the late 1960s.
This particular honorary Emmy is a strong and inspiring message from Hollywood's creative community.

4. I was all of 10 years old when it was on the air, and I loved it even then |

The subversive and very funny sketch comedy was memorable -- and honestly, I didn't laugh as hard at anything on the idiot box until, one night in my senior year of high school and suffering from insomnia, I expected to see my local NBC affiliate's "Creature Feature"... but was instead subjected to the first episode of "NBC Saturday Night" (the original name of SNL).

20. No but for me the most memorable was Paul Simon singing |
|
"Still Crazy After All These Years" while dressed in a turkey suit the weekend before Thanksgiving.

6. As Colbert and Stewart are the voices for now, The Smothers Brothers were the voice for then. |
|
I adored them and was heartbroken when the show was cancelled. Although honestly forgotten with all those years between, Tommy has now taken a place in my heart as a hero as he was back then.

I loved them..and was really incensed when they were taken off. I remember that it was something that David Steinberg did that really got them in the hottest water.
