The web as a safety valve
we should be in the streets

Instead we are on our computers

I love the web, but this is the puuurrrrfect safety valve. Instead of organizing for what is coming in the next week or so, here we are

So here is what I think folks should do... stop posting here for a little while... and go ahead and send emails to your Congress critters

http://www.house.gov/

And your Senators

http://www.senate.gov/

I know this is therapy for many of us... but this is the least I can ask you to do.

TAKE TEN MINUTES OFF from DU and SEND EMAILS to your delegation

Tomorrow call them.

Now if you want to expand your range, call the members of the banking committee

http://banking.senate.gov/public/

And the House

http://financialservices.house.gov/

Also call Reid and Pelosi... even if they try to ignore you

Oh and be ready to take to the streets

Oh and here is a little secret... even if this plan works (in whatever final form it takes... but the most noise the better for us) we are still in for quite a bit of pain.

1. I e-mailed my Congressman and senators.
I also e-mailed my friends to ask them to contact theirs. I will be working most of tomorrow but will try to call the senators and congressmembers.

3. Good for you.... I did already several times
I also have contacted the campaign several times, and those e-mails are getting increasingly wonky

But we need to do this

12. NAD - As a professional writer, give us a template
Frankly, I don't feel so hot. My head is swimming with the speed and audacity of all that has transpired in this country in the last month. I will rant if I have to compose a letter to these mutton heads and I'd like to sound most reasonable even if this great swindle is not.

Please give us a concise email or letter to send to congresscritters and such.
Thanks!

The rescue pacakge (the legistlation that is) that is sugggeseted by Secretary Paulson raises many concerns. Especially section two. No bid contracts? Are they kidding me?

Look, we don't need chicago school economists imposing on us Argentina or Chile Style solutions... after all you may want to check where those countries are, and where they wre begore Friednam got done with them.

They were the top economies of the southern cone. These days they are still struggling becuase Free Trade and all that does not work

Now what we need, for starters, is if a company is too big to fail, let me itnroduce you to the Sherman Anti-trust Act... USE IT, break these companies apart

We also need to ensure that workers remain in their homes... we own it... redo those loans so people can keep homes... bottom up economics

WPA style programs, that way we can rebuild the infrastructure and HIRE those who will loose their jobs in this mess as credit tightens and businesses fail

Oh and the legislation also has to reinsittute Glass Steegal and get rid of Gramm Beechley... oh and while at it, repeal Taft Hatley... and remove all right to work legistlation. We need to give the unions an absolute right to organize right now, and bring back the Wagner Act and give the teeth back to the labor relations board.

We need a mixed economy... where essential serives are in the hadns of the state.. energy comes to mind... as well a medicine... and we need to make sure that capitalism returns to mains stream

What Secreatary Paulson wants to do is push on all of you a Chicago Style Econinic system. Again, look at the southern cone... and do tell me, since McCian tells us that the SS is on the table, what happened to those SS funds that Chilenans had? They got 1\2 best case.

Now if you do this... without thinking... the mood in this country is becoming quite ugly... no joke on that one.

Sincerely,

XXXX

And yes it does need a little editing... but this should help

It is wonky enough... but just enough

6. The first thing I did this morning was email my 2 Senators & my Congresscritter.
I knew I was going to be out most of the day, so I got it done before I left. After I got home, I signed the CREDO petition.

Now I'm combing through all the threads on this topic and getting ideas for what to say when I make my phone calls to these useless bastards tomorrow.

Yeah, it's long past torch and pitchfork time, but unfortunately, that ain't gonna happen -- not yet, anyway...

7. I wonder if it is ever going to happen
what is sad is when I see people going REVOLUTION... (and the civil war may still happen)... people don't realize just what that means

Never mind that we can have a peaceful one too... but that still requires boots on pavement I fear

I did the same this morning AGAIIN

I will be calling in the morning,

And I promised more wonky letters to the Obama Campaign

8. The next revolution will be twittered, organized, liveblogged, and webcast
The flashmobs that will spring up if the R's pull the same 2000/2004 crap again...they'll make your head swim. Count on it.

Oh the impact thousands of suddenly appearing angry people have...you just don't know.

9. I am counting on it... I wonder if those in charge are though
and that may be the final straw, but we have had so many final straws I'm tired of counting

11. Taking to the Streets is a City Thing
You can't really do it in the country or in suburbia. Nobody will notice you except the guy in the SUV who will notice you about 1/2 second before he runs into you because he can't stop in time.

13. There are other things that can be done in suburbia
and you know it, (Freeway blogging comes to mind)

As to the country side... there were at times protests in the country side as well

Nevertheless... what do you suggest we do instead?
