Dems seize on McCain's 13 cars

Democrats eager to portray John McCain as out of touch with average Americans and as a flip-flopper seized on a report Sunday the Arizona senator and his wife, Cindy, own more than a dozen cars — including several foreign-made automobiles.

A Newsweek article published on the magazine's Web Site Sunday said registration records show the McCains currently own 13 cars — two of which are foreign-made: a Honda and a Volkswagen. That appears to contradict the Republican presidential nominee's past statements he only buys cars made in America. (Cindy McCain also drives a Lexus and daughter Meghan owns a Toyota Prius, but neither are registered to the McCains.)

Newsweek also reported Barack Obama owns one car: a Ford Escape Hybrid. ...

Actually with him owning that many homes, I am surprised he doesn't have 30 cars.

13 cars still goes to show he can't relate to the American people and the economic woes.

Honda has a _huge_ US operation. Most of their US market models are made in Ohio and Alabama. Volkswagens for the US market are made in Mexico, Brazil, Germany, and perhaps an Eastern European country or two. VW made cars in the US from the late 1970s until about 1989 or so in Westmoreland Pennsylvania. They are planning to build a new plant in Chatanooga, TN in the next few years.

I can't really jump on McCain for having 13 cars or whatever it is. If you have 11 houses, it's logical you're going to have a pile of cars as well. The 1960 Willis Jeep doesn't really count either. Lots of other good things to make fun of. Ie: Find out if he actually remembers how many cars he has... which car is at which house...

and didn't mention any US plants currently operating. They did mention 4 Honda plants in the US.

for over 5 years. At 2 cars a year that account for 10 of those cars. He probably dreamt of them and those dreams kept him alive to live another day. And you know he was ever so thankful for the best auto workers in the world who were making those cars so he had to make sure to keep buying more.

McCain has 8 houses, right?

Chances are, each of those houses has at least a two-car garage.

8 houses x 2 garages = 16 spaces for cars.

But only 13 cars.

That's 3 empty spaces.

18. Didn't Obama just buy the Escape?

I thought I heard something about this on NPR last week. I found it, this from newsweek, "Obama's lone vehicle also is a green machine, a 2008 Ford Escape hybrid. He bought it last year to replace the family's Chrysler 300C, a Hemi-powered sedan. Obama ditched the 300C, once 50 Cent's preferred ride, after taking heat for driving a guzzler while haranguing Detroit about building more fuel-efficient cars." Don't think they won't bring this up.

Trying to imply we're lackluster on the big issues and seizing silly things.

Who cares if some rich guy has a hundred cars, or fifty homes? I don't. Good for him.

He's rich. He doesn't have to buy his own milk. Get over it.

If he doesn't know how to buy milk, that's more important.
