FEMA is playing hardball this time around.
I live in SE Texas which was heavily affected by Hurricane Ike. A friend/co-worker had the roof on her trailer peeled back. The only room still "covered" is her bedroom. The FEMA inspector that was sent out last week said that the trailer is "liveable" which means no help for her. Across the street from her place a neighbor had a tree cut their house almost in half and the inspector had the same verdict: liveable.

That is bullshit. I am going to the FEMA site and see if there is a way to have some sort of appeal of the inspection.

2. I find it funny we can throw billions at bankers but literally pinch pennies for ordinary people.
This country is pretty fucked up.

6. FEMA's primary purpose
is to assist with enforcement of martial law when and if the time comes.

Helping citizens through a crisis is a front. At least that's the way I've come to see it.

13. They need to post pics or a video on the internets, "This is what FEMA calls livable"
Then we can see if we can make it go viral.

14. Has the Corp of Engineers begun the blue roofing campaign yet?
That is what was done after Katrina, those with roof damage signed up to get their roofs covered with blue tarp to protect their homes from further damage so they could "live" in the homes.

FEMA has a problem this go around, they don't have any alternatives to the travel trailers that people live(d) in after Katrina.

The Katrina cottages supplied to folks in Mississippi are not a practical alternative either, many of those flooded and/or were washed off their pier foundations during Gustav and Ike.

Fighting FEMA is not easy, but it can be done. Does Texas have a Texas Emergency Management Agency? If there is a TEMA you need to go to them as well.

15. Tons of FEMA trailers right here in Hope, AR.
There are literally hundreds and hundreds of FEMA trailers sitting right here at the Hope airport. The city is being paid thousands of $$$$ a month just to keep them here. These all date back to Katrina, by the way. There was never a full dispensation of them at that time, and the idiot a$$hats at FEMA still keep them here, paying rent on them as though NO ONE needs them!!! GRRRR!!!! :grr:  :argh: :spank:

17. We had issues like that down here after Wilma.
Get with your county or city code enforcement. If they condemn a place, then FEMA has to honor that.

Be careful though, because they can make you move out after condemning.

We were hit so badly that the county did not make people move out until they had somewhere else to go or a FEMA trailer. I lived in a condemned structure for two weeks.

Hope things work out for your friend. It is a difficult time.
