1. Never heard of it put that way. |
I'm not sure what they mean by that. Adult Detention Centers are jails. Maybe they're meaning a work program or some other service offered through the jail..like substance abuse programs, mental health programs, etc.

2. Thanks, on edit, I used the wrong word. |
Funny how one word can make all the difference in the world. The charge was for a misdemenor so instead of going to trial he has the choice to do this instead.

3. Everybody does, most of the time |
Except for murder or a violent rape. Almost any first offense will go through some kind of diversionary program with a deferred sentence.

4. Do you mean diversion? Is it a drug offense? |
In some states, some drug offenders are diverted from court to drug treatment. If they complete treatment, the charges are dismissed.

5. Ok, I got it. It's Adult Diversion Services |
I think it's usually for first time offenders. http://www.co.jefferson.co.us/da/da_T99_R45.htmIt uses the services I mentioned in my first post as well as others. The website link explains it further.

7. It i is pretty common program for alcohol/drug users. |
Also called Drug Court in some states. Usually the person is given option r treatment and/or fines, community service, and being monitored by a Probation officer, sorta like being on parole, as opposed to being sent to jail. Any violation of the rules and the judge can impose jail/prison.
