Let's shut down the government on Wednesday
Let them know we're pissed about the unrestricted bailout and the dictatorial powers for Paulson.

Here's what you do.

Beginning at 8 a.m. Eastern time, call your representative and both of your senators. This is your constitutional right. Register your opposition. Also, send them emails to back up what you told their clerks. Also, call their local offices. Call the White House and the Treasury Dept. Do the same.

You may need to call numerous times -- if this catches on, you may have to call a lot. Many people have unlimited nationwide calling, so it won't be a problem for them. If you don't, and can't afford it, stick to the local offices and sending emails.

Don't spam -- just exercise your legal right to make your voice heard.

Recruit as many friends, relatives, and acquaintances to join you.

If we can get 1 million people making five or six phone calls and sending five or six emails and/or faxes to DC, it will shut down their phone lines and email servers. They will get the picture that things aren't well out here.

If we can make this idea go viral and get more people calling and emailing, it will be even bigger.

Wednesday works for me -- we really need to do it before Thursday, but we need a day or so to get the word out.

Anyone in?

1. Yep. Would be great if everyone stayed home from work too. Call in sick.
We can stay home and spend the day telling our Washington leaders how we really feel.

2. Will this plan work?
I have already contacted both Senators and my Representative, and all three seemed to think that bush and co. cannot be handed a blank check. Even Grassley's guy. But if you believe your plan will work, I'll give it a shot, at least in the AM. I have some things to do later in the day (working overtime to afford food, shelter, gas, etc.) but we can give it a shot.

4. It worked the last time
This was done a few years ago -- I think it was 2002 or 2003. It worked like a charm. Most Congressional office and agencies couldn't conduct any business. They had no phone service, email or fax.

5. Yes, let's obstruct the group of people need to do their jobs so we can avert disaster.
Sounds like a brilliant plan. :sarcasm:

6. if we keep at them with our disapproval..they are there to do our will
Edited on Mon Sep-22-08 06:14 PM by HillbillyBob
They are there to do our will they work for us , remember us We The People?
Else we should send them home in disgrace.
I keep hitting enter..too many distractions here at the moment.
I have already registered my displeasure with NC(R) Senators Dole and Burr and
our Rep (democrat) Brad Miller. At least Mr Miller is working for us, wish I could say the same for StatusQuo Dole and Burr. I have also written to the Greensboro New and Record Newspaper.

7. Why?
I think they have work to do.

Have you communicated your concern about what they are doing with your Senator and Rep or are you just stirring shit up for no good reason?

10. "...work to do"?
If the last eight years is any indication of what their hard "work" produces, we would be
better off if they never showed up for their jobs again.

11. Yeah - What am I thinking? They have a finite period of time
to work out a solution to a national and possibly global financial crisis and some yahoos on the Internet decide that this is the week to come all brave and forthright and decide to start a movement to shut the govt down with some stupid meaningless prank.

I thought that watching Chris Dodd, Barney Frank and others say they have slept little this weekend meeting round the clock trying to come up with a workable solution before the markets implode would indicate that they had a lot of work to do.
