ntercepted Messages Asking Local Cells To Be Prepared for Imminent Instructions
By ELI LAKE, Staff Reporter of the Sun | September 22, 2008

WASHINGTON — In the aftermath of two major terrorist attacks on Western targets, America's counterterrorism community is warning that Al Qaeda may launch more overseas operations to influence the presidential elections in November.

A Pakistani army soldier stands guard by the devastated Marriott Hotel following an overnight suicide bombing at Islamabad on September 21, 2008.

Call it Osama bin Laden's "October surprise." In late August, during the weekend between the Democratic and Republican conventions, America's military and intelligence agencies intercepted a series of messages from Al Qaeda's leadership to intermediate members of the organization asking local cells to be prepared for imminent instructions.

An official familiar with the new intelligence said the message was picked up in multiple settings, from couriers to encrypted electronic communications to other means. "These are generic orders," the source said — a distinction from the more specific intelligence about the location, time, and method of an attack. "It was, 'Be on notice. We may call upon you soon.' It was sent out on many channels."

3. 2004 Quote from Bush ...
“Our enemies will never tire of thinking of new ways to harm our people and neither will we."

5. Obama must be ready for this possibility
What he should NOT do in the event of another attack is to roll over with a bunch of rhetoric like "we stand united behind President Bush...", bla, blah. Such mealy mouth rhetoric will only send voters stampeding to vote for McCain, who is Bush's heir apparent.

I have always believed that there is a large segment of voters who will default to voting Republican unless you give them reason not to do so.

If we are attacked again, he should punch a hole right into the GOP argument that they have used now for over 7 years: we have not been attacked on US soil since 9/11. He should without hesitation make it clear that the Bush Administration policies have failed and that John McCain represents a continuation of those policies.

10. It's an extreme RW rag.
They ran an editorial about how everybody opposed to the war in Iraq should be hung for treason. William F. Buckley wrote for them. what more do you want to know. Also, they're going out of business unless they can find a major funding source by Sept. 31st and are desperate for attention.

9. so, what does it say about the Republicans
that the terrorists are endorsing them?

I'd be a little afraid of letting this cat out of the bag if I were them.

Obama and Biden should definitely be discussing how Bush failed to read the documents warning of 911. If another attack is successful, we can only assume that

a) bush was golfing again

and

b) McCain, who swears he knows how to win wars and find terrorists, chose for some reason to do nothing.

I mean, really. they are the "safe" party? Why has Russia sent their navy to the seas to form an alliance against the US? More proof of how "safe" the pukes are. As an aside, can someone please gag Palin and McCain until they are defeated in Nov? They are causing all kinds of international problems...and they haven't earned that right yet.

12. Let us remember some months ago
we had a few Republicans talking about how they missed the post 9/11 days and openly wondering if another attack may not be such a bad thing.

16. Really can't believe they think we'd fall for it twice...
both times to concentrate us militarily in Afghanistan/Pakistan. Gotta finish that pipeline, build and protect the Caspian corridor. It's such a lame excuse, but what else do they have as an incentive/excuse to rouse us to participate in continuing war? It worked once...sort of.
