Bellevue man accused of beating his dog with golf club
BY RICHARD EGAN
WORLD-HERALD STAFF WRITER

A Bellevue man used a golf club to beat his rat terrier because it wouldn't stop barking.

The dog's injuries were so severe that it was euthanized.

Carson Smith Sr., 41, of 1416 St. Joachin Court, was ticketed Sunday night by the Nebraska Humane Society on suspicion of animal cruelty.

Smith was cited on suspicion of a misdemeanor, punishable by up to one year in jail and a $1,000 fine. Mark Langan of the Humane Society said he forwarded a report of the incident to the Sarpy County Attorney's Office, which will decide whether to upgrade the charge to a felony punishable by up to five years in jail and a $5,000 fine.

Langan said Smith got angry when his dog, Sam, wouldn't stop barking. Smith struck the dog on the head with a golf club, causing massive skull and brain injuries. The family rushed Sam to a veterinarian's office. The dog had to be euthanized at 3:30 p.m.

3. Even though Marta and I have 2 rat terriers...

I'm withholding any judgment. I'm hoping to be on the JURY since I now live in Bellevue. Both our Rat Terriers had abuse in their backgrounds.

See our Sweetie at the ASPCA site here: http://www.aspca.org/site/PageServer?pagename=adopt_successsweetie

Her adoption is here: http://www.hua.org/Dogs-For-Adoption/Judi.html

Judi was adopted by Steven and Marta in Nebraska

Judi is a female Rat Terrier, born in 2003, weighs 9.6 lbs, but is very thin and will most likely put a bit more weight on. Judi was impounded after being hit by a car. Her left front leg was broken and she had a few abrasions on her face. We heard about her the very day she was brought in to the vet clinic and we immediately authorized the proper care for her leg even though we didn't know whether she would be claimed or not. Her three days went by without any person coming to look for her. We cannot imagine how anyone responsible for the care of this sweetest creature could ever let 1 day go by without trying to find her, and yet 3 whole days went by with no one coming for her. She is now safely in HUA's hands and in our hearts. We are looking for a loving home for Judi---somewhere where she'll be treasured and kept safe for the rest of her life.

5. Well that was stupid
He should have shot him from a helicopter instead. Then he'd be a hero, like Sarah, the canine torturer.
