Why is there no talk of punishment for the people behind this mess...
Edited on Tue Sep-23-08 05:13 AM by WCGreen
Why is it a desperate kid can get twenty years for holding up a liquor store for 50 bucks but a corrupt broker who plays the system for millions is basically allowed to walk away scott free. And he gets to keep his millions. Subsidized by taxpayer money.

These people have to be made accountable.

President Sarkozy wants answers!

I agree with you. The people who perpetrated the crime should be punished. If they get off scott free it will happen again.

4. At the very least, they should be banned from ever working in any way
in the financial system. Period. Not even a bank Teller.

7. Don't you think it's odd that no one of prominence is calling for
justice? Once AGAIN these people slap the American people and get away with it. There are only laws for you and me, not THEM. I'm ready to crawl into my hole now.

13. They should also be banned from being lobbyists.
Lobbyists are the real source of the problem here. Financial institutions lobbied for years to have regulations removed, and ensure no oversight for the industry.

And now look at the mess. SOMEONE knew this was happening.

6. That's not an excuse....
The dem's in congress have to step in and at the very least, reserve the right to punish people who are guilty of crimes against the country.

Does anyone GET that the money we are getting to "bail us out" is coming from BANKS? The FED is NOT A government institution that just prints money. The gov BORROWS from a private BANK!

So there has been no talk of regulation, punishment, etc because the transfer of power is just about complete. ie the BANKS and RICH will OWN our asses with a $700,000,000,000 loan.

9. Let's start with the term "white-collar"
In America, even crime is divided by class. Somehow those "white collar" people are seen as better and basically nice - otherwise decent citizens. And all because of the job they hold, they education level they possess, and the money they make. (and skin hue can and does play into this as well)

The kid with the gun? Is seen as dirty, desperate...a danger to society. (and skin hue can and does play into this as well)

The person that robs you at the point of a pen is said to have made a mistake.

The person that robs you at the point of a gun is said to have committed a crime.

12. BINGO! "Some will rob you with a six-gun, and some with a fountain pen"
"But no matter how you travel
or how far in life you roam,
You won't ever see an outlaw
rob a family of their home."

It takes a fountain-pen crook to rob people of their homes.
