"Hey, broke, no-job-security-having white folks! You're PRIVILEGED! |
|
So Vote for Obama!"
Yeah, that sounds like something that will really resonate with mainstream voters and get them into the voting booth.
:eyes:
Thanks sooo much for the multiple posts on this topic. It's just what the doctor ordered in the final stretch of a campaign.

1. This is General Discussion, |
|
not GDP. So you might imagine that some people will want to talk about sociological realities, even if it's not necessarily a good idea for a campaign to bring them up.

3. Since DUers don't agree whether white privilege exists, |
|
it's a good idea to discuss it, I'd say.

4. I'm not saying that it doesn't exist, just that it doesn't exist for ALL whites. |
|
And that the topic alienates a lot of those people.
Which is a good reason to save it until Nov. 5.

5. It's not "privilege" in the true sense of the word, it's more like "inborn advantage." |
|
"White privilege" doesn't mean white people have it easy -- it means, all other things equal, being white IS an advantage over being non-white.

6. my experience as an american has enhanced by the color of my skin. |

'white privilege' is a fact. that some whites don't take advantage of it doesn't mean it doesn't exist.
it is pervasive; it a fundemental element of american society.
the deniers, so matter how high-pitched their squeakings on the matter, are simply dellusional.

7. Referring to things ALL people deserve as privilege is a bass-ackwards way of looking at it |

That is all I have to say about the matter.

8. It's a way to deflect blame and defend the system at the same time. |
|
The issue isn't the systematic unfairness of American Society! The issue isn't that an overly aggressive corporate sector and a pliant government allow for bullying, discrimination, and marginalizing of people based on wealth, education, or the color of their skin.
Oh no!
The real issue is that the boss man chooses to exploit my neighbor (who works the same line as me, but who is a different color) a little bit less than me.
Perhaps a detailed critique of my neighbor's inner-most psyche will convince the boss man to treat me better? :silly:
