My subconscious/dream response to all of this insanity
My mind is really crazy lately between all of this election/financial/political nuttiness, insane letters to the ed. from right-wing nuts (more to follow later on that), and the clincher was reading on here yesterday that an Army division was to be deployed on US soil. Then I started reading 'Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them' - my dad's copy of Franken - and although he was bashing the hell out of that monstrous bitch Coulter, it was still a little disturbing. SO -

I woke up in the middle of the night last night, thinking of Lennon's 'Imagine', and I made myself, in my half-awake stupor, say "get 'Imagine' music" out loud. While making coffee this morning, it popped into my mind, and I just bought the sheet music. (Well, and I also added 'Maybe I'm Amazed' and 'Desperado'). I'm no great musician, but there's a piano here that belonged to my mother, and by Gawd, I'm going to learn to play 'Imagine', and play it well. And sing it - with feeling. Remember Peter Gabriel singing it during the opening of the Turin Winter Olympics?

A typical white male right-wing conservative would make fun of me for this, but I say f--- 'em - I think it's cool. :^)

1. Good for you.
I have wondered. You know Mark Chapman was a born-again Christian ? I think John Lennon’s political activism may have been a thorn in the side of a few extreme Rwers. The ideology of the lyrics of the song Imagine is a Rwers nightmare.

I loved Al Franken’s book. He is hilarious. Have you read the part where Barbra Bush and he are on the same plane, so he decides to talk with her? Her response telling him to leave was so off-the-wall he kept thinking she was kidding, so he kept trying to talk with her. I laughed so hard. That is a funny book!

2. Thanks... no, I'm not that far into the book yet, but I'll read it. As for Lennon,
oh yeah, I think he was way too hippy-dippy for the Right. When he was shot - and I know EXACTLY where/what I was doing when I found out - my then-girlfriend (who liked Reagan :^p ) *almost* started so say something derogatory about Lennon a day or two later, in front of her equally-brain-dead roommates, and when I said something about being depressed and feeling like I'd lost a brother, she shut right up - so I'll give her that. :^)
