I'm glad to see Dan Rather's allowed sue CBS. I believe that he's really the Ed Murrow of our time

Rather pushed the limits of his profession in an atmosphere that wasn't as accommodating as it is now with Olbermann and Maddow enjoying free reign. And, he put himself on the line. I don't know why, but he hasn't received enough credit for confronting Bush at the height of the presidential election with the true (if, in fact, flawed) account of his non-service in the National Guard. I wish Dan the best.

Judge says Dan Rather can move forward with lawsuit against CBS

1. Lest we forget,
he's the one who never backed down from Dick Nixon's barbs during press conferences.

The most famous exchange between the Big Dick and Rather went something like this, as I recall:

Nixon to Rather: "Are you running for something?' Said with a snide sneer.

Rather immediately back to Nixon: "No, sir. Are you?"

It was perfect.

I ran into Dan Rather as he was coming out of the White House on the day that Spiro Agnew announced his resignation. We walked together while I, a young law student, asked him what this meant in terms of Presidential succession. He couldn't have been nicer or more gregarious, talking as if we'd always known each other, full of information he was eager to impart.

He also, I noticed, had some seriously nice thighs.
