AIG- what they're really about.
Edited on Tue Sep-23-08 12:03 PM by junofeb
I've seen AIG simply described as an insurance co. in the news and discussion here. Last nite, someone was even asking if they should buy stock in the company. Thanks to Dr Debug and his voluminous journal, I found a link to a very eye-opening interview with investigative reporter Lucy Komisar on the subject of offshoring.

I doubt these bastards are broke, it's probably safely overseas and they're milking us for more. "Bailout", my ass.

http://spitfirelist.com/

Featuring the brilliant investigative journalist Lucy Komisar, this program highlights the use of “Offshore” entities to evade taxes, maximize corporate profits and finance a variety of criminal enterprises. Much of the first side of the program consists of analysis and discussion of insurance giant AIG and its prolific use of “offshore” scams. In addition to presenting AIG’s pioneering development of “captive” reinsurance companies to launder profits and evade taxes, the program highlights AIG’s use of Coral Reinsurance for a variety of illegal gambits. It should be noted that AIG’s illegal operations have been aided by a number of powerful and influential people. Much of the second side of the program consists of review of the pivotally important Clearstream network, and its use by intelligence agencies, corporations, criminal syndicates and terrorist organizations.

3. I can confirm about the offshore stuff.
I know a gal and her husband who both work for AIG in Bermuda. Their job duties are to set up accounts on the islands for their clients and they're paid well for their efforts.

8. Tri-Lateral Investment Group
Excerpt from Al Martin's book about Bush's Harken Energy Fraud

... The Tri-Lateral Investment Group, Ltd. is also one of the deals (one of the very few deals, perhaps only a few dozen deals in that era by this group of guys) that you could connect Jeb, Neil, George, Jr., Prescott, and Wally Bush.

All five you can put in the Tri-Lateral Investment Group, Ltd. You can put Neil in it vis-a-vis Tri-Lateral's dealings with Neil's Gulf Stream Realty.

Then you back up a step and put Neil Bush into Tri-Lateral Investment Group's dealings with the Winn Financial Group of Denver run by the infamous former Ambassador to Switzerland, Phillip Winn.

You can put George, Jr. in the deal vis-a-vis the Tri-Lateral Group Ltd.'s fraudulent relationship with American International Group (AIG), of which George, Jr. was a part through the same series of fraudulent fidelity guarantee instruments issued on behalf of Harken Energy from American International Group.

Tri-Lateral Investment Group then sold bogus oil and gas leases to AIG.

This is a direct fraud that George, Jr. profited to the extent of (not a lot) $1.6 or $1.7 million.

But it was a clear out-and-out fraud.

18. Ive worked for AIG
Edited on Tue Sep-23-08 01:38 PM by burythehatchet
and have kicked around the industry for 25 years. I've set up off-shore captive insurance companies and helped my clients avoid paying domestic taxes.

Yes, AIG has always stretched the bounds of what is legal and ethical. But they could not done any of this without corporate clients who demanded it.

Every client with whom I have worked with these finance vehicles is eager to push the envelope. And if it wasn't AIG it was Travelers or Zurich or CNA.

Part of the problem has always been that IRS regulations simply cannot/will not address every loophole. In addition, what used to be a standard insurance product like workers compensation is now another means to use captives (special purpose entities) to accelerate tax deductions.

Elliot Spitzer was the sworn enemy for everyone in the business because he went after these financing vehicles.

on edit - before I get slammed for my career choices, I did walk away from doing this kind of work and left behind a lot of money.

24. Since Kissinger's all tied up in
AIG and Palin here's Monty Python...

Henry Kissinger
How I'm missing yer
You're the Doctor of my dreams
With your crinkly hair and your glassy stare
And your machiavellian schemes
I know they say that you are very vain
And short and fat and pushy but at least you're not insane
Henry Kissinger
How I'm missing yer
And wishing you were here

Henry Kissinger
How I'm missing yer
You're so chubby and so neat
With your funny clothes and your squishy nose
You're like a German parakeet
All right so people say that you don't care
But you've got nicer legs than Hitler
And bigger tits than Cher
Henry Kissinger
How I'm missing yer
And wishing you were here

31. Well at least a couple of people are paying attention. Thank you.
You know, anyone can be suckered once, but when you let them do it to you time after time after time, it's your fault and you deserve to be taken.

So OK, your (Amerikan Sheeple) lack of education is almost an excuse for not understanding this latest scam, but surely, just a drop of common sense would seem to tell you that companies and an industry that has sucked, literally, trillions of dollars out of our economy has the means to correct this, doesn't it?

Another question, why is Obama backing the very thing that will hog-tie him and prevent any action that his administration might have been able to take to start fixing things?

41. The FBI began investigating them in March of this year.
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/09/24/AR2008092403589.html?hpid=sec-business

Federal investigators have been scrutinizing American International Group since March, focusing on whether the insurance giant knowingly concealed mammoth losses that helped lead to the company's $85 billion federal bailout this month.

Investigators are interviewing witnesses and examining previous statements and disclosures made by AIG and its former officials, according to two people familiar with the probe. No determination has been made about whether to seek criminal or civil charges, said the sources, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because the investigation is at a delicate stage.

As with the 25 other ongoing FBI inquiries involving the mortgage debacle, the main focus of interest is whether companies and their executives misled investors and auditors when they put a value on their mortgage-related investments.
