Dirty Secret Of The Bailout: Thirty-Two Words That None Dare Utter

Share Print CommentsA critical - and radical - component of the bailout package proposed by the Bush administration has thus far failed to garner the serious attention of anyone in the press. Section 8 (which ironically reminds one of the popular name of the portion of the 1937 Housing Act that paved the way for subsidized affordable housing ) of this legislation is just a single sentence of thirty-two words, but it represents a significant consolidation of power and an abdication of oversight authority that's so flat-out astounding that it ought to set one's hair on fire. It reads, in its entirety:

****
Decisions by the Secretary pursuant to the authority of this Act are non-reviewable and committed to agency discretion, and may not be reviewed by any court of law or any administrative agency.
****

1. "may not be reviewed by any court of law" is so unconstitutional
it's laughable.

Not that that matters anymore.

3. Anyone who votes for this dog the way it is worded
should be taken out and shot for treason.

That's how bad it is.

We do need the bailout. We also need to fund it by a surtax on the highest incomes.

6. As they put it in the old Pace Salsa commercial...
"Get a rope."

The Bush administration needs to face some kind of justice.

And I have read numerous editorials on the topic. It's getting LOTS of attention.

8. We have had eight years
of a president who signs every law with a statement that it doesn't apply to him.

And impeachment is still off the table.

Anybody who agrees to that is a mug."
