My Advice to the Obama Campaign: "Run as a Democrat"
Edited on Tue Sep-23-08 05:14 PM by louis c
I know, I know, he is running as a Democrat. What I mean is link yourself to all the Democrats who had to clean up after the mess Republicans created over the last 80 years. The Republican philosophy has always been that "the markets can handle themselves". Whether it's protecting the consumer from prescription drugs that could harm us, lead paint in children's toys, protecting us from unscrupulous corporations that would pollute our air and water, or protecting us from companies that would pass food along the market that could make us sick. The government must protect us. Once again this Republican philosophy has caused an economic calamity.

!929, 1989, and now this one. It is not just a coincidence that the three major economic "meltdowns" have come on Republicans' watches. Every time, the tough, hard and dirty work of cleaning up the mess and returning America to a sound and economically just society fell on the broad shoulders of the grown-ups of American politics, the Democrats.

There is a reason why McCain's handlers refuse to attach the term Republican to McCain or Palin. The brand name sucks. There is a reason that McCain wants to fire Chris Cox, a Bush appointee, and name a pedigree Democrat, Andrew Cuomo, in his place. It's that everyone knows who's to blame, once again, for America's economic collapse. It's the Republicans.

Barack, a true Democrat, cut from the mold of FDR and JFK, should lay claim to that heritage. Spell it out. These blue collar Democrats that are reluctant to vote for Barack because of his race, just might come home to the Democratic party in this time of crisis.

I keep hearing my anti-Obama co-workers say derisively, "Oh yea, Obama's another Messiah." My response is, "I never thought of him as another Messiah, but he sure in hell can be another FDR."

To Barack Obama: Link yourself to your true Democratic heritage. People need another FDR, especially since everyone is likening this current crisis to 1929.

I'm trying to understand this new rating system.

3. The only thing I would add...
is that he NOT run as a DLCer. Hell, he might even get my vote if he did that.

4. Amen to that
That's what I mean by a real Democrat cut from the FDR and JFK mold. you noticed I left out Clinton.

As a matter of fact, Bill clinton has been very annoying in his tepid support of Obama.

6. I agree. The real Dems are definitely not the DLC. The DLC are republicans in dem clothing.

8. Any Democrat is better than any Republican
but a "real" Democrat is better that a member of the DLC

5. This is a tremendous opportunity for Obama to stand up for the 90%
of the country who no longer have a voice. I hope he stands up and shows us how a real leader tackles problems (hint: it's not by looting your own treasury).
