Is "e-statements only" safe for your bank/credit union accounts? |
|
Couldn't all your "proof" simply vanish into the ether?
How can you make sure it is safe? Download the info into Quicken or some other money management software? How would you prove you didn't alter it?
I just moved my money into a new credit union account and was thinking of doing this to save paper and to get a 7% return on my first $500 in my savings account. I'm all for saving paper and getting a bit of a better return, but it seems to me this is pretty risky. Thoughts?

3. I, on the other hand, put almost no personal info online |
|
including e-statements, credit card numbers etc. I may be a bit paranoid. Used to be an IT guy and digging for info was part of my job. I figure if it is out in cyberspace you greatly increase your chances of having somebody grab it.

2. I'm old fashioned and like paper statements. |
|
But I use the e statements as backup occasionally. Even if I switched to e-statements, I'd print out a copy each month and file it.

4. e-banking is much safer |
|
According to experts, in practice, you'll access your account information more often so you'll find fraud sooner.
You can always do screenshots on your computer or just save the file to your hard drive.

7. Yeah, my worry is that if there were a discrepancy, can I use that as proof of my balance? |
|
They could claim I doctored it.
And I was going to start doing automatic deposits for my paychecks... I do a lot of stuff online, I'm just worried about proving what I have if something were to happen where I would need to do that.
